CHAPTER 40

HIS SIDE

I STOPPED, AND then my mouth opened. Drago is sitting on the floor, his back against the edge of his bed, holding a fabric with which I am very familiar.

It was the handkerchief I had previously given him. Before I left Highcrest Mountain to finish my studies, I asked Bella for a favor. And that is to give Drago my birthday gift. And seeing him clutch the handkerchief as if it were the most important thing in the world melts my heart.

He was lost in his own thoughts and he didn't even bother lifting his head to see who entered his room. Hindi rin naman kasi niya ako maramdaman dahil sa rejection niya sa'kin.

"Drago..." my voice trailed, "let's talk."

He finally raises his head, and my heart breaks seeing him so broken. The coldness in his eyes has vanished, and no trace of the Drago I once knew is left. His hair is unkempt, and he didn't even bother to fix the buttons on his shirt.

"I don't want you to see me like this," he uttered weakly. Then he leaned his head on the edge of the bed before closing his eyes.

"I don't want you to accept my rejection. I know it sounds selfish, but I don't think I can go on living knowing that the only thing that keeps me alive is going to end." He bowed his head and bent both knees, then rested his elbows on his knees with his hands supporting his head.

"When I rejected you, I felt like I was the worse of all beings. How could an Alpha rejects his future Luna?" He let out a soft laugh before he finally looks at me in the eyes.

"I didn't hesitate to leave Synth during our hunt when I sensed you that day." And all I could think about was you, how you look, what your name is, and how your voice sounds. And when I finally saw you, I swear all I could think about was owning you and marking you. Then fate steps in. When I heard Synth say your name, a realization hit me like thunder.

"My rage has nothing to do with the Bracks. But, you see, I conducted my investigation. I gathered all of the information I could about your uncle and his family. Kaya nalaman ko na ang kapatid niyang babae, your mother, was married to a werewolf. And it was then that I realized you were related to the person I vowed to destroy."

Saglit akong natulala dahil sa mga sinabi niya. He chose to reject me because he doesn't want me to entangle myself in his problems, especially when my uncle is involved. Nonetheless, I still find his decision irrational.

He once more caught my attention when continued to speak.

"I know that you think my decision is hasty but my rage and anguish took over. I let my emotions decide for me. And there was no way I could take it back. But despite my rejection, you never once made me feel unwanted. You never once resent me, instead, you showed me how much love you have for me. You never lose hope for us. Every day, I feel guilty for what I did. My desire to see you and to hold you intensifies each day and that made me agree to give us a chance."

"What do you mean?" My eyes widened. "Ang akala ko ba ay dahil narinig mo kami ni Fabien?" naguguluhang tanong ko pero tanging iling lang ang iginawad niya sa'kin.

"After I left Assura, I returned to Xynmorth to visit my parents' sanctuary and beg forgiveness. I know what I did to you disappointed them. I told them right after I asked for forgiveness that I had already made up my mind. I'll give us a chance and try to heal myself from my painful past.

"It's true that I heard you with that prince but it never really mattered to me. But I indeed used you to lure your uncle, but I only did that because I want him to tell me everything he knows about the people he used to serve. Iyon lang naman ang gusto ko. Wala akong intensyon na saktan ka."
