CHAPTER 4

THE REASON

I'M CURRENTLY watering the pots in the garden and Ida is raking some dry leaves. After what I've heard yesterday I immediately left and went back to the kitchen and I just ask Ida to bring the drinks to the gazebo. I felt like I don't have the courage to face them. I felt guilty for eavesdropping even if I don't really understand what they were talking about.

And what does the Alpha mean when he said that she knows the truth? Was he talking about the woman who died? And who is she to him exactly?

My mind was clouded with various questions and I didn't notice that the water was already pouring out of the pot.

"Are you alright, Rees?" Ida asked with worried.

"I watered it too much. Don't worry, I'll take care of this," I told her smiling.

Ida is still eyeing me with worried so I gave her a thumbs up to let her know I'm okay.

She nods her head and goes on with her work.

Yesterday, I really thought I'll see Alpha Drago since I'd heard him telling Tarik he'll visit the garden. I was scared and nervous at that time. Mabuti na lang at hindi natuloy ang plano niya. Narinig ko kasi kay Nana na umalis na naman ang Alpha.

But he's going to be back tonight because Nana told me that we'll prepare his dinner.

"I'm done with the dry leaves. Let's take a break for a while."

"Okay," I said and then I washed my hands.

We chose to rest under a tree.

"I wanted to ask you something but if you think it's forbidden then you don't have to answer me," I said.

Simula kasi noong nagtrabaho ako rito marami akong gustong malaman pero ni minsan ay hindi ako nagtanong.

I mean, I wanted to ask them questions but I don't want to look like or sound like someone who's into gossip and petty chit chats.

"Okay, ano bang tanong mo?" Ida said as she lies on the ground.

"Lady Farrah mentioned to me before that the people who live here are all unnatural beings. Why? Bawal ba ang mga normal na tao rito?" I asked while pulling some grass.

Ida breathes in and blows her cheek. "I once asked Fran about that. I also noticed that I hadn't sensed a single presence of any normal beings during my first week here. And Fran simply stated that the Alpha does not get along well with humans. That's why all of the servants in the pack house are unnatural beings."

"Pero bakit? Have they done something wrong?" I asked.

"Yes, and what those humans did leave a deep wound on the Alpha," Ida murmured.

"What did they do?"

"The humans murdered the former Luna of this pack. They murdered the Alpha's mother along with his unborn sister. His father also died the same night," Ida said with pity in her voice.

For a brief moment, I was bewildered by what Ida had told me. Then something strange happened to me. My head hurts, and I'm seeing strange images and then I started hearing voices.

What is this? Who are these people? At bakit parang pamilyar?

May sinasabi si Ida pero hindi ko maintidihan. Napapikit ako ng mariin habang mahigpit na hinahawakan si Ida hanggang sa tuluyan na akong nawalan ng malay.

"How is she, Zara?" a man asked.

"She's fine. Kailangan lang niya ng kaunting pahinga," the woman answered.
