Chapter Twelve - Chaos in the Woods

Note: Hey! So if I'm not mistaken, the gang still has two Chaos Emeralds, now that I think about it. So I changed Lavender's mention of needing only one more in the last chapter, and Shadow has had one all along (I just remembered that he was using Chaos Control in the jungle when he was with Valentine, hunting Sonic and Amy). So yeah.

And, just to be clear, because I haven't mentioned this anywhere else, I don't think, here is the explanation of the gems.

The gems' powers are basic forms of energy. But instead of going into details and making this seem like a science lesson, I'll make it look like they're elements.

Sonic currently has five. Lavender has one, and really Tails has his, because he gave Sonic the fake one that he has yet to try and use, so Sonic doesn't know that it's fake.

The ones Sonic has are fire (red), ice (blue), crystal (white/ish), energy (green), and sound (Indigo's violet one). Tails' gem is light energy (yellow/gold, pretty much electricity), and Lavender's.. you'll see. She used it before, but I didn't go into depth about it. They can all be focused as attacks, but also have their own thing, like how crystal/ice can be solid and shaped and such.

That confused me while writing it, so I hope it doesn't confuse anybody. If you still don't get it, it doesn't really matter anyway. I'm just saving Valentine from having to explain it and looking like a know-it-all.

Shadow's eyes squinted through the darkness as he tried to make out the figure that now stood before him. But when they spoke, he knew exactly who it was.

"Who's an idiot?"

"Hmph, you are, for starters," Shadow said as he hopped back, putting a safe little distance between them. "What do you want this time? Want to steal another girl?"

The figure stepped forward, stepping into the faint glow from the firelight that lit up the area from the distance. His blue ears lay back against his head in offense. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You kidnapped Amy, then Cream," The darker hedgehog said flatly. "What do you think I mean, Sonic?"

"I didn't kidnap anybody," Sonic said, crossing his arms. "I just wanna talk to you guys now. Mainly Tails."

"Sure thing," The ebony hedgehog said sarcastically, turning and motioning for him to follow. He started walking the short distance back to the camp, and when the others came into view, they looked up and stared in a sort of solemn surprise.

"Sonic!" Tails said, jumping to his feet. Cakt stood beside him and pointed out to the blue hedgehog.

"What did you do with Cream, you blue freak!" She yelled. "You hurt her, didn't you! Why would you hurt an innocent little kid?"

Sonic gave her a strange look. "Blue freak? Cream is safe and sound with Amy. I'd never hurt them."

"Where are they, then?" Tails asked in a pressing manner, walking up to him. "And what was that all about, huh? Why did you steal my gem, and why do you keep running away?" He asked, glaring slightly. "You flat-out lied to me!"

"Uhh, speaking of that," He averted his gaze and rubbed the back of his neck. "I kinda need your emeralds."

Tails' glare softened somewhat. "What emeralds?"

"The Chaos Emeralds that you have. Those emeralds."

"What if I said that I didn't have them?" Tails asked after a moment's hesitation.

"Then we'd both be liars, wouldn't we?"

A sudden wave of fear washed over Tails like an ice cold bucket was dumped on him. There was something chilling in Sonic's voice; something that was chilling to the bone. Before he had a chance to try and form a response in his head, Shadow stepped forward, waving a bright red emerald. "Tails doesn't have any. I have one, though."
