"Lavender." Sonic spat. Just her name alone tasted like poison on his tongue. He sat up and faced her fully, narrowing his emerald gaze as it trailed her body. She was wearing a long, dark robe of sorts, and although she was hooded, he could still see her face plainly as she glared down at him with a cold stare. "What are you wearing? You look like a shady medieval traveler."

"I'm wearing this because there's some stupid police dudes on my tail, thanks to your dumb friends." She huffed. "But whatever. I don't have time for your games! I have something you want, and you have something I want."

She snapped her fingers as she reached behind her back, and Vector came out of the bushes, pushing Cream in front of him. The poor girl had her hands tied behind her back and a cloth tied over her mouth, and when she saw Sonic, tears came to her eyes.

Sonic growled, raising up on his hands and knees. "Really, Vector? You're strong enough to take Lavender on your own. Why are you letting her push you around?"

The crocodile averted his gaze ashamedly, refraining from answering. Charmy came out of the bushes, looking quite ashamed as well, and Espio appeared behind Sonic.

"You do want her back, don't you?" Came an impatient Lavender.

"Yeah, of course I do!" Sonic spat angrily. "I just don't have anything to offer you. I don't have the gems anymore."

"I have the gems." Lavender replied simply as she pulled the large gem from under her cloak. "I got that invisible lizard dude to steal it right out from under Valentine's nose." She laughed drly. "She was so distracted with.. what's that guy's name.. Shadow? That she probably hasn't even noticed that it's missing."

"Then what the heck do you want from me?" The hedgehog scowled. "Haven't you caused enough trouble yet?"

"I just want my father's essence from you." She replied as she stepped forward. "That's all I want, and then I'll be out of your life for good."

Sonic tore his eyes away from the gem, which had been all too alluring. "And just how do I give it to you?"

"Just use it once."

Scenes flashed through Sonic's mind suddenly, much like a nightmare. He had hurt those closest to him, pushing them away. He had almost killed Shadow, and had treaded on the edge of pure insanity. Thoughts greatly contrasting his own had constantly flooded his mind, and he had kept Amy in a prison, spouting ridiculous theories that hadn't even made sense. Those gems had sent him into a spiraling darkness, and he wasn't about to drown in it all over again.

"No!" He shouted, causing all the birds in the vicinity to flee the scene. "Not again!"

"Blueberry, I'm not trying to--"

"No!" He screamed, clamping his hands over his head. It was like a nightmare to just imagine what would happen again. Lavender's eyes widened as they fixed on him, and she started to take a step closer, but stopped. Cream stepped closer to Vector and whimpered.

Indigo ran out from the bushes and got in front of Sonic, holding his hand out as if to stop the female dog. "I think you've done enough already, princess. There's no need to put him through anything more."

Lavender snarled. "Indie, you traitor! Whose side are you on?"

"The right side," He retorted without hesitation.

"But I thought you loved me." Her voice softened significantly. "After all the time we spent together--"

"All the time we spent together?" He echoed in disbelief. "Doing what? Hurting people? Tricking people? Do you think catering to your every beck and whim was fun, Lavender? Do you think I really enjoyed it?" He scoffed. "I had sworn my loyalty to you and was blinded by my affections toward you.. But after seeing how your plans affected others.." He shook his head. "I'm afraid I can no longer take your side. My feelings for you have not changed, and I may never get over that. But I have now sworn my loyalty to Sonic in hopes that I can make up for the damage you caused."
