~Tails~

"Is that the mountain?" Knuckles asked for the fifth or sixth time.

I sighed. "I don't know, Knuckles." I answered, getting pretty annoyed by his constant asking. "Sonic left before Eggman could tell us where exactly it was, remember?"

There were mountains everywhere. I hadn't known there was what seemed to be a massive mountain range in the swampy regions, but there was. And thanks to Sonic's hastiness and lack of direction, we were lost. Well, I guess I could have asked Eggman since I was the last one out, but that hadn't really been first in line on my mind at the time.

Sonic, who was standing on the wing of the plane- which I honestly wish he wouldn't do, because I'm  always afraid he'll fall off-  gave a sort of sheepish shrug. "Heh, he said East and I had no idea there were so many mountains around. Heck, I still don't know where we even are." He said casually as he stretched out his arms above his head.

"Are you sure you're okay though, Sonic?" I asked, giving him a concerned look.

He nodded and gave me his signature thumbs up. "I'm fine. Actually, I'm a bit lightheaded but.. I'm good."

"Well, don't push yourself." I said. He nodded and gave me an assuring smile, but that didn't make me feel much better. Eggman had supposedly put Sonic into a medical-induced coma, and he had just randomly popped up with no problem? No complications, no complaints about pain; nothing. I personally didn't think that was anywhere near fine or normal.

"What happened to you where Eggman had to save you, anyway?" I asked, keeping my eyes glued on the scene ahead of me. Eggman had told me what happened, but I wanted to hear it from Sonic's perspective to see how well it matched up.

"We were in the South Polar Icecap." He began with a rather uncomfortable expression. "Big was there, fishing or something like that. He said that there was a monster, and we asked a village fish shop lady about it, and she said that this 'monster' hung around this old shrine. So we went to check it out and it was this demon shadow thing. The fight is mostly a blur, but.." He paused. "Cream was there, and she was taken by that purple dog guy, along with Amy.." He stared forward and clenched his fists. "Shadow went after them, and so did Valentine and this other girl named.. Cat? Next thing I knew, I was in Eggman's pod with him and.. well I don't remember anything else." He paused for a moment. "We need to get there, Tails." He said in a low voice.

There was a bit of silence as I maneuvered the plane, carefully examining our surroundings for any signs of suspicion.

Knuckles cleared his throat. "So what're we doing about the other gems, anyway?"

"Who cares? I'm going straight in there and taking them all out. We don't even need to worry about the gems." Sonic said with a raised fist and a look of sheer determination

I glanced back at Knuckles and we exchanged looks.

"That's a little..harsh, don't cha think, Sonic?" I said quietly.

He turned to me with a serious look. "What's wrong with taking down your enemies?"

I sank in my seat. Knuckles sat up straight, holding onto the back of my headrest. "Okay, now you sound like Shadow." He said.

Sonic looked at Knuckles for a moment, then blinked. "Y-yeah, I guess you're right." He gave a soft chuckle. "Sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. I am gonna get them no matter what, though." He sat on the wing and looked forward, then down to his lap with a thoughtful look. Knuckles and I once again exchanged unsure looks. I decided to try and not think anything of it. Maybe Sonic was just irritable. He was covered in bandages, after all, and was only hurt not too long ago; he had to be in some pain.
