Chapter 8
So the meeting didn’t go at all like I thought. It was actually fun. Piper and I really hit it off. She is actually pretty cool. She isn’t like the doomsday group we saw last time, she’s not all brain washed. We didn’t even talk about the DG. We talked about me, the flock, Dylan, Fang, and even Maya. While talking to her I almost completely forgot she could be plotting to kill me any minute, but she never did. We hung out most of the afternoon. And my phone was completely ignored.
The cool evening air blew against my face as I flew through the canyon, it wasn’t late but sure wasn’t early. It had to be around 7:30, the sun was going down soon. I land on the the front yard and heading through the front door.
“Max!” My mother exclaims throwing her arms around me. Hugging me tightly as soon as I was in the room, I nearly gasped in surprise. “Thank god you’re alive!” My mom began talking to me about how worried she was but I barely could here because Jeb was yelling at me while Fangs gangs and the flock were asking me what happened. All at once, it was a earful of chatter.
“EVERYONE, BE QUIET!” Angel yells. That got them quiet. “Jeb, go ahead.”
“Thank you, what happened?” Jeb asks me. “We thought you were dead.” My mom let go of me, keeping her arm tucked around mine.
“Well nothing really, I went and Piper was there but she said that we will have to reschedule because the boss guy was too busy to come right now. So me and Piper hung out, went to lunch, talked about…” My voice trailed off and I stopped.
“Talked about what?” Jeb asks nervously. Everyone watched me curiously. How was I supposed to tell them I complained to Piper about them? I complained about how Jeb never got off my back, it was always save this, go to Germany with him, and rule this. I mean seriously, UGH! I’m only a 16 year old girl. I complained to Piper about how Angel was good one minute than she went full blow EVIL the next. I complained about Fang and Maya. I complained about Fang and Dylan and the whole perfect match fiasco. I complained a lot. Man, poor Piper I bet she wanted to pull her hair as I went on and on.
“Um, nothing just stuff.” I stutter.
“Stuff like?” My mom asked. Angel giggled putting her hand over her mouth to hide her smile. “What?”
“Nothing, I just read Maxs mind.” Angel grinned. Crap, I forgot.
“Do you know what she told the girl?” Maya asks. Angel nods. Don’t you dare.
“She complained about us.” Angel said and I glare at her. Traitor!
“Well, I’m going to call it a night. Later.” I wave starting to head down the hall, but my mom tightens her arm on mien stopping me.
“Max, wait.” Jeb orders softly. “There’s something we need to talk about.” He looked at me uncomfortably. Then he looked at Dylan, and I knew exactly what this was about. “You guys can go on with your business.” Everyone spread out. Fang, Maya, and Ratchet went and sat on the couch. Iggy, Ella (my half sister), and Nudge sat on the other couch. Ratchet flipped on the TV to a show I knew. That 70’s Show. Holden went and sat in the arm chair. Star and Kate went and sat at the table.
“Is this about Germany?” I ask loudly making sure the flock knew what we were talking about.
“Yes.’ Jeb sighs.
“Jeb, we already cleared this. Max breeding isn’t an option!” My mom exclaims. Thank god one of the adults is thinking clearly.
“We are running out of options, we need Max to breed!” Jeb yells at her.
“She’s 16 years old, she’s way too young! How can you even consider it! She’s your daughter!’ My mom yells back.
“Excuse me.” I say quietly.
“I know that! Believe me, this is one of the hardest things I’ve had to do!” Jeb shouts ignoring me.
“She isn’t ready for this!” My mom yelled again ignoring me as well.
“EXCUSE ME!” I exclaimed trying to get their attention. They stopped and look at me. “This is mine and Dylan’s decision. Jeb, we have heard this speech before I understand everything you’ve said so no need to lecture me again. Dylan and I are going to talk and then we will get back to you.” Jeb immediately nodded but it took my mom a minute to agree. Dylan and I walked out the back door and took off. We flew for several minutes trying to make sure we were out of hearing range, the only two people that could hear us would probably be that Ratchet guy or Angel reading our minds. We land on a cliff side. Dylan had his eyes on my face the entire flight.
“So, Max the basic question is Do you want to go to Germany with me?" Dylan asks.
