Sorry it took so long
Chapter 14
“So, why exactly do I have to wear a hoodie?” Nick asks as we fly to the house.
“Because I can’t just walk up to the house with another Fang, that’s just crazy!” I point out.
“So you walking up to the house with a mysterious guy in a black hoodie isn’t crazy?” Nick sneers. I roll my eyes. Why did he have to have the same clever sarcasm as Fang? The house came into view and we landed in the front. Nick had the hoodie low over his head. His head was still up and you could see his face. I grabbed the top of the hood and pulled it down gently.
“Head down.” I order which only made him laugh. He lowered his head hiding his face. We walk through the front door into the living room. Luckily, the room was empty. No Flock, no Dylan, no Fang, and no Jeb.
“Hello!” I call out. “Jeb, I need to talk to you!” Still no answer. Why is whenever he’s around I want to bang my head against the wall, and then when I actually need him he’s nowhere to be found. I honestly don’t get it. Maya comes through the back door; she narrowed her eyes at Nick.
“Who’s that?” She asks. Nick lifts his head and pulled back his hoodie. Mayas eyes widened. I glare at him. What was the point of the hoodie if he was just going to yank it off?!
“Hello Maya, I’m Nick.” He glares at her, nothing but hatred in his eyes.
“Where is everybody?” I ask changing the subject quickly. Not your best subject change, but work with it.
“The flock went for fly. Ella, your mom, and Jeb went to the grocery store.” Maya couldn’t stop looking at Nick; the confused look on her face was actually pretty funny. “And everybody else is in the back.” Suddenly Fang came from the back door, finally seeing Nick. His eyes widened, but trust me he seemed to be taking this having a clone better than I did. He cautiously walks up to Nick studying him as Nick studies him. Seeming them stand next to each other I could barely tell them apart, I wonder if this is what it is like with me and Maya for everybody else. Really confusing, maybe I should shave Maya’s head in her sleep.
“What’s going on?” Fang asks me, finally looking at me. I notice Fang has blood by his eyebrow and on his lip. I could tell he was mad, actually I wouldn’t say mad I would say more I don’t know. A mixture of irritation, anger, and confusion, possibly disgust but I’m not sure.
“Oh, I’m sorry we are being totally rude. I’m Nick.” Nick introduces himself. Fang glared at him, not saying anything. He had this look on his face that I’ve seen on Fang many times; it’s that Im-trying-so-hard-not-to-punch-you-in-the-face look. I moved closer to Fang putting myself between them.
“Maybe it would be best if you went, Nick.” I suggest.
“Alright, see you around, Max.” Nick winks at me and Fang tenses barring his fists at his sides. Once Nick left, I grab Fangs arm pulling him down the hallway into the bathroom. He leans casually up against the counter watching me. I reach under the sink and grabbed the first aid kit.
“Okay, you don’t have to talk about Nick yet, I’ll explain everything later.” I say. “But you’re going to have to tell me what happened to your face.” He grins down at me. I grab a cleaning pad and dabbed his head lightly. Fang stared up at me face smiling crookedly. He stroked a strand of my hair behind my ear then stroking his fingertips against my cheek.
“I’ve missed you.” He said quietly. Trying to pretend that that didn’t make me get butterflies was difficult but I managed to pull it off.
“Don’t ignore the question.” I press.
“Dylan and I got in a ‘disagreement’ today.” Fang answered still stroking my cheek. He wrapped his other arm around my waist pulling me into him. I couldn’t help but crack a smile. I put the cleaner pad on the counter.
“What was this ‘disagreement’ about?” I ask putting my hands on the back of his neck playing with his hair.
“That’s not important.” He grins, leaning kissing me on the lips. I loved the way Fang kissed me, as if he wouldn’t be able to breathe without my lips pressed to his. My heart pounded heavily against his. His skin heated under my fingertips. A knock on the door made me pull away.
“Hey Max, you might want to get out here.” Maya said talking through the door. I rolled my eyes. Fang kissed me shoulder.
“I’m a little busy right now, Maya.” I said.
“Fine then, don’t talk to Jeb about how your starting High School tomorrow.”She hollered.
