Chapter 3
Once I saw the club entrance I knew this was a bad idea. Correction, this is the worst idea I’ve ever had in my entire life. A large man stood in front of a door his arms crossed. We were in a parking garage downtown, it was an underground club. I could hear the music blaring from the inside. Several people stood outside the club. 3 girls in their 20s stood in the corner smoking, laughing loudly. Wearing dresses that I’m surprised qualified as outer clothing. The other people out here were just creepy guys who obviously didn’t make the cut to get in. They were what I imagined murders looked like. Dylan grabbed my hand, and I let him. We walked up to the large man in front of the door. He smiled at me making a chill run down my spine. Then I remember I couldn’t act like a frightened child if I wanted to get in. Actually I’m not sure if I do wanna get in. Then I remembered Fang and Maya at home and quickly plastered a fake smile on. The man didn’t even bother to ask us for an i.d. he just opened the door for us. We walked in calmly and once the door shut I felt trapped and immediately tensed. Dylan squeezed my hand trying to reassure me, but only Fang could do that. We walked down the stairs to the floor. It was dark in here with only the flashing lights for lighting. Stuffy, hot, and loud. Crammed full of people. I don’t know why people come, my eyes shot to the bar. “Come on!” I yelled to Dylan trying to be heard over the music, I pulled him though the crowd heading towards the bar. I eventually let go of Dylan’s hand and elbowed my way through the crowd of the dancer’s sweaty body’s. When I finally made it to the bar counter I was sweaty and tired. Only three other people sat at the counter. They were around my age obviously 16 or 17. No idea how they got any here. Maybe they had a good fake i.d. Two guys and a girl. All obviously drunk. The girl had dyed dark purple hair and dark brown eyes. She wore I odd dress and heals higher than mine. The two boys had dark black hair that was greasy and messy. Their clothes were raggedy . I sat on the stool and Dylan came up and sat in the stool next to me looking kind of irritated I ditched him. We ordered a drink and the bartender didn’t hesitate. After I finished my first shot, I waited a minute before ordering my next. Dylan barely got down his first. Then “One light” caught my ear. I listened into the kids sitting next us. “One Light, man. It’s awesome. We should be probably be getting back soon.” One of the guys said. “Are you guys with Doomsday group?” I asked oddly in a fake drunken voice. Even though I wasn’t drunk. “Of course we are, One Light is amazing!” The girl shouted raising her arms up in the air and twirling in her seat.
“ Yes it is.” I said still continuing my fake drunk voice. “We love One Light. We actually want to join and help. It really sucks what happened in Paris” I added putting on a pouty face. Dylan looked shocked but I kicked him under the table to let him know I was lying.
“Yah, I know man.” Said one of the boys.
“I’m Maximum Ride.” I said not knowing how they would react to my name. “ This is Dylan.”
“ Hey, cool name. I’m Piper.” The girl smiled widely she reeked of booze and cigarettes. “ This is Dodge and Cato.” “Hey.” Dylan nodded finally coming into the conversation. “Where do we go to join the group?”
“We are having this big meeting thing tomorrow man. You guys can come and talk to the boss. He will say yes or no.” Dodge said.
“Yah, give me your cell number and I’ll call you tomorrow with the details.” Piper smiled widely kind of freaking me out. I gave her my number and then the three of them left. After about 4 more shots I felt like dancing so I pulled Dylan onto the dance floor, the music was loud and the room vibrated. Dylan stayed close to me and we danced like everyone else. I laughed like an idiot even though no one made a joke. My phone began to buzz in my pocket and slowly pulled it out not having much control over body. The caller id read Jeb. I pressed ignore without a second thought. I was having fun. Then I saw the clock on my phone read 2 in the morning.
“We got to go!” I yelled to Dylan and held up my phone to his face so he could see the time. His eyes widened slightly than he burst out laughing. The urge to punch him came but quickly went away and I began laughing along with him. Focus Max I shouted in my head! Find an exit! I grabbed Dylan’s arm and pulled him along with me as I stumbled across the dance floor. Pushing people aside to get through. I felt so dizzy, the room was spinning. We need to get out of here. I felt a cold hand grab my arm, it wasn’t Dylan’s. It was strong and hard, squeezing my arm so tightly it hurt. My first instinct was to fight and luckily that’s what I did, but being drunk in all I accidently punched Dylan right in the nose completely missing the person grabbing me. Dylan crumbled to the floor and his hand slide out of mine. Then I was thrown on the floor by the person who had grabbed my arm.
I was to dizzy to see his face. I hit my head on the floor, hard enough to draw blood. He began kicking my stomach unbelievably hard. He was stronger than humanly possibly, was he a robot eraser or something? I didn’t know. He continued to kick my stomach and I was sure he was causing some damage. Suddenly he stopped. I looked around, he was gone. My head throbbed, I stood up shakily my stomach screaming in protest. I swallowed the pain and grabbed onto Dylan’s arm and pulled him to his feet. He had more to drink than me. I pulled us up the stairs every step like a baseball bat to the stomach. Once we got to the door I breathed out in relief which didn’t help much, I felt as if my lungs were on fire. I pulled it open and pulled Dylan along with me. We walked out of the parking garage without falling to our knees to many times. We walked the the mile out of town into the woods in private. I unfurled my wings and so did Dylan. “ Can you fly?” I asked him groggily. He shook his head than a few seconds later he nodded. I leaped into the air sending a current of pain through me. I soared up with relief that Dylan was following. I grabbed onto his hand to continue to pull him along and catch him if he fell. The canyon came into view, the cool night air stung my skin. I felt so dizzy and woozy I couldn’t take it. Slowly I fell a little at a time . Crash landing in woods on the edge of the canyon, hidden in trees. We fell to the ground. Dylan lye a few feet from me completely passed out. I closed my eyes unable to move anymore. Then I passed out.
