Chapter 15
I flung open the bathroom door. My eyes narrowed. Maya stood in the hall, a smug smile of her face. I could kill her for just looking at me that way.
"What are you talking about?' I demanded, hands on hips.
"Ask Jeb." She smirked. I pushed her shoulder hard, slamming her into the wall. She gaped at me angrily, but I'm already stomping past her. I stormed down the hall into the living room. Everyone was back lounging around the room.
"Jeb! What is this about me going to high school?!" I exclaimed. Jeb looked nervously at the floor then looked up at my mom for help. She shook her head.
"Well, your mom and I were talking and we think it would a good idea if you and Iggy went to high school." Jeb muttered, not looking at me.
"Why!" I demanded. "We've tried going to school before! It doesn't work out! And I don't think we have time to go to school, you know with the world ending in all!" I was furious; as you might of guess I'm not a fan of school. We went once for a few months, but that was a long time ago. Before I had a clone, before me and Fang were together, before Ari died. This was a long time ago. I was 14!
"Well, Max your right with everything that's going on its not the best time but I think it would be good for you and Iggy to go and try being normal teens, learn some new things while you still have a chance." Jeb said. I rolled my eyes.
"Be normal teens?! We will never be normal teens, Jeb!" I yelled. "And they're not even going to let us in, we have never gone to school before except for like a month."
"That's not going to be a problem, I sorted out your records and as far as that school knows you and Iggy have been homeschooled and you have wonderful grades."
"Why are me and Iggy the only ones going, why not Nudge, Gazzy, and Dylan?" I crossed my arms.
"Well, we don't want this to end up exactly like last time so we planned just to send you, but—"Jeb began. I laughed loudly glaring daggers at him.
"You know Jeb I don't get you. Why do you want us to 'act' like normal kids? You made us this way, remember? I would think you would be a fan of making us even more freak. Embracing what we are."
"It's was your mothers idea." He said, almost bitterly. I looked at her.
She smiled kindly at me. "Education is important, Max. Maybe learning about the world you're going to save will help you. I honestly think living a normal life for bit will help you relax. You've been so stressed out lately. I worry about you."
"Iggy wants to go." Jeb interjected quickly. I looked at Iggy, surprised. He's leaned casually against the wall.
"I do want to go, Max." He said calmly. "Either with or without you," I breathed out heavily taking everything in. This was insane. So much is happening. I was starting to lose track of it. Fang has a clone named Nick who joined the doomsday group. Piper is going to call me any day now telling me I have a meeting the doomsday group boss. Fang and I are together again. Jeb wants me and Dylan to go off to Germany and have kids. Now they're asking me to go to high school. I loathe my life.
"Max, I will go without you, you know I will. Then I'll be all alone and… blind, all by myself so easy to get attacked." Iggy continued trying to make me feel bad. Ugh, it worked.
"Damn sympathy," I growled under my breath, looking up at Jeb. "Fine, I'll go for a few days. But I'm going to have call Piper and see what's going on. Angel, I know you probably already read my mind so please tell Jeb and everyone about Nick." She nodded. "Oh and by the way before I forget me and Fang are back together, might as well just get that out there already." I shrugged. Fang now stood behind me. I walked past him and hurried down the hallway into my room. I pulled out my cell and called Piper. Waiting for her to answer seemed to take forever, until finally her voice clicked on.
"Hello?"
"Hey Piper, its Max." I said.
"Oh hey, is everything okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, I was actually wondering if you knew when the meeting is yet."
"No, sorry but it won't be for a few weeks. I hope that's okay."
"Yeah, that's perfectly fine. Thanks Piper." I hung up. I fall back onto my bed not wanting to do anything but just lay here. Tomorrow I would be entering the pit of despair, the fortress of evil, the never ending sorrow, and the dangerous jungle also known as high school.
