Chapter 18
As much as I was looking forward to being expelled the principal didn’t expel me, Jeb had made quite the argument on our side. I swear the guy could have been a lawyer.
Iggy bailed, school wasn’t actually working out for him so he’s going to try again in a few days after Boyce and his crew back off a little. I don’t blame him, I rather join him but I still had to go. Not just because Jeb was making me because honestly Jeb can’t make me do anything. I’m going to go so Boyce and his boys know I don’t scare off easy and I certainly don’t give up. If I don’t go Boyce will just think he scared me off, and I’m not giving him that satisfaction.
Fang was dropping me off today in a beat up van Ratchet had stole awhile back. Him and Ratchet were driving to town today to spy on the doomsday group so they were going to drop me off on the way.
“Here we are.” Fang grumbled pulling into the parking lot. Students were everywhere again this morning. The car stopped and I sighed. “Call me if anything happens or you need my help, I’ll wait here until your inside.” Fang frowned. He was in the driver’s seat and I sat shot gun, with Ratchet in the back.
“I will, thanks.” I lean over pecking his lips gently. “Bye.”
“Bye.”
“Wait, Max. Don’t I get a kiss?” Ratchet calls after me as I got out of the van. I hear Fang tell him to shut and I couldn’t help but smile. I walk across the lawn, and definitely could feel Fangs eyes on me.
“Hey, aren’t the person who beat Boyce and his crew?” A girl asks behind me. I turn and look at her. She had curly blond hair, bright blue eyes, wearing the girl’s school uniform.
“Yeah, that’s me.” I answer cautiously. Two guys came up behind her, both tall and fit. One of them had blond hair and bright blue eyes like hers. I’m guessing they were siblings. The other had brown hair and brown eyes. They were both pretty cute. I knew Fang was still parked watching me. I just hoped these people wouldn’t do anything stupid.
“Sick! I thought that was awesome! Boyce and his boys needed a good beat down.” She smiled.
“Wait, you’re the girl who did it?” The brown haired guy asked. I nodded. “Dude!” He lifted his hand to me and we high fived. “You are my idol!”
“I’m Claire, this my twin brother, Josh and his friend, Derek.” The girl smiles.
“I’m Max.”
“Hey, you wanna hang out with us?” Claire offered. I recognized her. She was in some of my classes.
“Sure, that would be great.” I offered a smile. We began walking to the school entrance Claire went on talking about our first class. I glance back at where Fangs van had been, feeling a little disappointed it was already gone.
The morning had gone by quickly before I knew it; it was time to go to lunch. I had friends now; I sat with Claire, Josh, and Derek at lunch. I had spent most of the day with each of them. All of us had first period together, which was History. Second period was just me and Josh which was Algebra. Then third was Science, Derek and I partnered up during lab time, and I tried not to get to squeamish around all the lab stuff. Then I had Art with Claire and Derek, I really liked them. All three them, I just hope they aren’t evil.
We sat at one of the picnic tables outside. I brought a sack lunch from home not wanting to eat the nasty school food. I had brought 3 sandwiches, 2 apples, and 3 granola bars.
“So Max, where you from?” Claire asked.
“Here, I live about 10 minutes from here, but I’ve been homeschooled my entire life.” I lied taking a big bite of my sandwich.
“Oh, cool. Ever been to the Grand Canyon?” She asked. I tense, chewing more slowly as my eyes narrow.
“Yeah I’ve been there, why?” I swallow hard.
“Our entire class is taking a felid trip there tomorrow, all day!” Claire grinned.
“Cool.” I nod, relief flooding through me. I remember when the flock and I were at normal school we took a field trip to the white house. Angel met the president.
“Yeah, it’s going to be epic!” Josh cheered. We laughed, while Derek rolled his eyes.
“Yeah sure, a giant hole in the ground, sounds super epic.” Derek mumbled.
“It’s not a hole, it’s a canyon made by Indians or whatever.” Josh said.
“Indians didn’t make the grand canyon.” Derek exclaimed. Josh rolled his eyes.
“Didn’t Indians live in the grand canyon?” Claire asked.
“I don’t know, but you know who supposedly does live in the Grand Canyon?” Josh said. “Those bird kids.” I freeze.
“Yeah, that’s what I heard.” Derek said. “I read Fangs blog all the time.”
“Me too.” Claire smiled. “What about you, Max? Ever read it?” I shook my head.
“You know I think they leader of them name is Max.” Josh said. I tensed, my heart pounding heavily.
“That’s cool; I share a name with a cool bird kid leader.” I smiled lifted up my arms like wings. “Do you guys like my wings?” They laughed.
“Yeah totally, Max.” Claire laughed. I smiled breathing out in relief.
Good save, Maximum.
I about jumped out of my skin when I heard the voice in my head.
“You okay?” Derek asked. I nod.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” I reassured him. Long time, no hear voice. Where you been? I thought.
I never left, but you’ve been doing so well on your own. I didn’t need to say anything.
I did a good job? That’s surprising to hear. I thought.
Yes you did, hope you had a fun vacation. Because it’s time for you to work.
What does that mean? I thought. No reply. Super.
