Chapter 19

I waited in the parking lot. Fang was supposed to come pick me up, but he was 15 minutes late and if anyone knows me, they know that I’m not very patient.

“Hey, Max!”

I looked over and see Claire come through the school of the school.

“Hey.” I said, as she walks over to me.

“Waiting for someone?” She asked looked around.

“Yeah, but he’s 15 minutes late.” I frown. Fang, I’m going to kill you.

“Oh, well if your ride isn’t coming you can come to the football practice with me.” she grinned. “Josh and Derek are on the football team. I always go and watch because Derek is mine and Josh’s ride home. He lives next to us. You should come we can hang out, make fun of the cheerleaders. It will be great!” She smiled.

“I wish I could, but I really got to get home.” I smiled sadly. Weirdest thing is I actually wanted to go with her. “But isn’t there a game tomorrow?” She nods. “I’ll go with you to that.”

“Okay, see you tomorrow.” She smiles in agreement, waving at me as she goes on her way heading for the field. I walk down the road, and once I knew the coast was clear I took of my vest and unfurled my wings and took for sky. Fang better have a good excuse.

When I got home the van wasn’t there and they weren’t back yet. The evening went by fast, I did my homework, helped with dinner, watched some TV, and before I knew it I was off to bed. Fang still wasn’t back. So sleep was nearly impossible. I close my eyes.

Go to sleep, Maximum. The voice ordered.

“Max.” Fang’s soft voice whispered. He gently kissed my forehead. I smiled tiredly opening my eyes. It was dark in my room, but I could still see Fang alright. He gazed down at me smiling.

“Hi.” I mumble. Jeez, why was I so tired. Fang was too far away. I raise my arm for him and he smiles gently as he lies down next to me on my bed. His arm wraps around me holding me against his chest. He smells amazing. I rested my head over his heart, listening to his heart. “You’re late.” I whisper.

“I know. I’m sorry.” He whispers back. “Lost track of time,” There was an edge of sadness in his voice.

“You okay?” I frown, peaking up at him through my lashes.

He breathed out heavily. Something was definitely wrong.

“Don’t worry about it, love.” He began, “I love you so much, you know that right?”

”I know you do.” I agree which seemed to relax him a bit, but it did nothing to relax me.

“I always will, no matter what.” He assures me. “You need sleep, Max.” I than remembered how tired I was. My eyes close slowly and I before I know it I’m fast asleep
