Chapter 17

The only place I was positive there was no security cameras was in the bathrooms, and it took me a bit to convince Iggy to come into the girls room so I could check and make sure his wings were okay. The bell had rang a few minutes ago so everyone was in class so that’s when me and Iggy went in. I went in first making sure no one else was in there. It was empty. Then Iggy came in and I locked the door. He took of his jacket and extended his wings slightly.

“How do they feel?” I asked.

“Sore.” He complained. I looked them over. They seemed okay. “Ill be fine.”

“Yeah, hey great job we did blending in.” I sighed.

“Hey, I’m not the one who flung a guy into a locker making a giant dent.” Iggy smirked.

“I know, I know but I had to. He pushed you on the ground.” I said. “Wow, what we weren’t even here five minutes and we already got into fight. I think that’s a record.”

“I bet it is.” Iggy smiled. “So, what do we do, go to class? We could say we got lost.”

“Okay, it’s only been like 5 minutes, they will believe that.” I agree.

We finally reach our last class before lunch, we were in Art. It’s taught by Mr. Bruno, the coolest teacher ever in my opinion. He was definitely mine and Iggy’s favorite teacher. Since Art wasn’t exactly Iggys subject. Mr. Bruno got him started with sculpting with clay. Iggy was pretty good at it, me on the other hand, I could use some work. I tried painting, but I’ve got as much painting skills as a toddler. So I just decided I would watch Iggy sculpt instead. Mr. Bruno was pretty easy going; all you had to do was show up and attempt to create some artwork. The bell rang signaling us to go to lunch. Iggy went over and washed the clay of his hands and we left the art room. We had been the last to leave the classroom besides Mr. Bruno so the halls were already empty.

“I like that class.” Iggy smiled.

“I did too, even though I’m terrible in it.”

“I didn’t think your painting looked bad at all.” He grins. I rolled my eyes but that was totally useless.

“I’m rolling my eyes, Ig.” I said. Suddenly I was slammed into a locker. Iggy yelled behind me. I looked to see that guy I had slammed into the locker earlier with 4 of his friends. I pushed off the locker and decked the guy holding me to it. Iggy punched another guy. I decked another guy and another.

“Hey! What do you think you are doing?!” A teacher yelled from down the hall. The guys all sprinted down the hall, I grabbed Iggys arm and run as well. All that teacher probably saw was me and Iggy kicking these guys’ butts they could easily lie and say we started it. We ran in the cafeteria and got in the lunch line quickly blending with the other students.

“Well that was fun.” Iggys said.

“Yeah, totally.” I scoff. I look around and saw those guys were sitting at a table not far from us. They were laughing and they waved at us. These guys had been giving us a hard time all day. One tripped Iggy in Math. Another super glued his butt to a chair. Then one taped a note that said hot on my back. Another broke Iggys sunglasses. This was ridiculous. Great school you picked out Jeb. Not to mention not many people had said anything to us. Most of them heard or saw the fight in the hallway this morning and a lot of them were afraid of me. We finally reached the front of the line and got our crappy lunch of what looked like a turkey sandwich and mashed potatoes. We began to walk outside to sit on the picnic tables out there. That guy I pushed stopped us.

“Hold on a minute there princess.” He smiled. Two of his friends were behind him. “Who do you think you are just coming to our school and making a fool of us?” He snarls. Iggy and I set our trays on the empty table next to us. Then we turned to them.

“Look, we don’t want any trouble, so just back off and leave us alone.” I warn calmly. He laughs, while his friends snicker behind him.

“Who’s going to stop us, beautiful?” He smirks, leaning closer to me. Keep your cool, Max. Don’t lose your temper. Remain calm.

“Just leave us alone.” I mutter dryly. I turn away proud of myself I didn’t lose it. Then he grabs my arm and pulling me back into him. I lose it.

I spin around, my fist quickly connecting with his nose making blood splatter. He coiled back in pain and I kicked him hard in the stomach. Iggy punched his two friends. Then grabbed them by the hair and knocked their heads hard together. Ouch. His other two friends run up from their table and I elbow one in the face than quickly head butted the other. The students were on their feet chanting Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

“Hey!” the teacher supervising us yelled making his way through the crowd. “All of you to the office!” He yells looked horrified at the guys, they had blood all over them. Iggy and I were fine except my fists were pretty bloody and so were Iggys.

We sat waiting in the office for Jeb to come pick us up. The guys we beat up were in the nurse’s office. I had learned that the guy who had pushed Iggy down earlier name is Boyce and his 4 friends are Jared, Felix, Mike, and Andrew.

“You are both in so much trouble!” Our principal yelled for the fifth time, he had been talking to us for several minutes now but I wasn’t paying much attention. Iggy was sitting next to me, watching our principal blankly. Every once in a while I could feel him shake next to me as he tried not to laugh. I’ll admit it was hard not to myself. The principal’s face was red, and he looked like he was about to pop a blood vessel. Careful old man, you might have a heart attack.

Right on time, Jeb walks into the office accompanied by my mom and Fang. Fang smiles at me when he sees me, I smile back easily. The principal began talking to Jeb something about expulsion, sounded like good news. The 5 boys walked by us looking all bruised and beaten.

“Go get you stuff, I’ll call your parents.” The office lady we talked to early instructed them gently. The 5 of them glared at us as they walked by.

“You’re dead.” Boyce whispered to me.

“Bring it on.” I whisper back. Iggy chuckled. Fang walks over to me, I stand up from my chair and run up and hug him surprising him. From everything that’s happened today it felt good to be Fangs arms. Engulfed in his warmth, and the tangy aroma that lingered on him, it’s my favorite place. I instantly began to feel better about this cruddy day.

“I like the uniform.” He whispers.
