Chapter 11

After my long shower, I got dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. The morning sun was just rising outside my bedroom window, I smiled welcoming the day. I couldn’t seem to stop smiling. To happy, I guess. But if I didn’t knock it off then Jeb and the flock would know something was up. Fang and I decided to hold back the back together announcement for awhile till everything cools down a bit. With the doomsday group and Fangs gang being here. And of course there’s Dylan. Fang and I getting back together is just icing on the cake. So we are going to play it cool. No lingering stares, no flirty comments, as far as everyone else knows there was no wonderful kiss last night. They think I’m still mad at Fang, and that Fangs ignoring me. The plan is to keep it that way. Let’s see how long this lasts.

I walked down the hallway into the living room; it was around 7 in the morning so I’m not expecting a crowd full of people. Maya was in the kitchen cooking what looked like pancakes. Surprisingly enough, my mom is in there helping her. It wasn’t the best feeling in the world. Ratchet was watching SpongeBob Squarepants; he was sitting on the couch next to Fang. Fang was on his laptop, my guess on his blog. He must have felt my stare, because glances right up at me. Grinning when he sees me watching, I grin back. Then Dylan comes in.

“Good Morning, Maximum!” He cheers smiling widely. Man, I hate morning people. Fang rolls his eyes at Dylan and looks back down on his computer. Dylan walks into the kitchen.

“Someone’s here!” Angel yelled running down the hallway up to Fang, who was already on his feet. “I don’t know who it is, but she has a gun.” Ratchet, Maya, Dylan, Angel, and Fang ran over to the window looking for the mystery girl.

“I’ll go wake, Jeb.” My mom said running down the hall. I walk out the front door while everyone else was distracted. I walk over to the ladder, which was lowered already. I guess someone forgot to bring it up when Ella and Mom came. Dark purple hair peeks over the side, and I smile in relief as Piper beams at me. She climbs over the edge, struggling for breath, as she steps off the ladder. I didn’t see her holding a gun but she did have a purse which could definitely fit a handgun.

“Hey Max, sorry for barging in like this but my phone died and we have something to do today.” Piper apologized standing up, breathing kind of hard. I know for her climbing that ladder is no picnic.

“It’s okay, um where are we going?” I ask.

“It’s a surprise.” She grins. This wasn’t good. I was too close to Piper. I trusted her too much; she was obviously part of the doomsday group. She even told me she was part of the doomsday group! Yet, it didn’t seem like it. Piper was a normal teenage girl. She isn’t all brain washed. Something is different. The last time I had a run in with the doomsday group they were obviously brain washed and high pitched sounds made them go back to normal. It was almost as if the mind control the doomsday group was now using is stronger than last time.

“Yeah, okay um you want to come inside? I have to grab my stuff then we can go.” I replied, making my way to the front door. Piper was behind me, looking around curiously as we walk inside. The flock and Fangs gang had all gone back to their lives, seeing I knew Piper and we weren’t in danger but I wasn’t completely sure. Fang and his gang sat in the living room, watching SpongeBob. Angel sat close to Maya eyeing Piper, reading her mind no doubt. Fang and Maya eyed her as well, but so did pretty much everyone. Piper didn’t look super normal. Her hair was dyed a dark purple, it was short about an inch above her shoulders. She wore a girly bright yellow blouse and a light pink skirt. She was bright and in public she drew attention. It’s what we always avoided.

Jeb and my mom were in the kitchen, Dylan stood near them glaring at Piper. The flock sat at the table eating their breakfast. Ella sat by Iggy she whispered something in his ear that made him smile. I was happy they were getting along. Iggy deserved someone great like Ella. (Ella-I have something for you.)

“Oh, I totally forgot to tell you, a kid with wings joined the doomsday group yesterday.” Piper bragged, twirling a strand of her hair.

“What?” My brows furrow. “What’s their name?”.

She shrugged “I don’t know I didn’t meet him. He’s in mine and Jesse’s group, but only Jesse met him yesterday.” Piper explained. “By the way, if the boss accepts you, you will be in that group to.”

“Cool.” I forced myself to say. I’m still processing finding out that there’s another person with wings. I grab my cell phone of the kitchen counter, slipping it into my pants pocket.

“Are you ready to go?” Piper asks I nod, letting out a deep breath. “You’re going to need this.” She pulled out a shiny new handgun. Instead of shooting me like I expected, she handed it to me. I looked at it for a minute, my fingers holding it carefully like at any moment it would go off.

‘Um, why do I need this?” I mumble, my eyes wide.

“Well, where we are going you kind of need one.” Piper giggles.
