Jealous

(A/N: I don't own Rick Riordan's characters, we've been through this. This part is set between Titan's Curse and Battle of the Labyrinth.)

Hello, my name is Annabeth Chase, Daughter of Athena, Demigod heroine. Lately, my best friend, Percy Jackson, had been acting strange. I'll elaborate. Sure, sometimes males act strange, but Percy only acts this way whenever a certain someone is mentioned: Luke Castellan.

You see, I have a-I have a-I cannot believe I am going to say this-I have a crush on Luke. There I said it. No matter how many times I deny it, I know I am just evading the truth.

As I said before, Percy has been acting strange. Whenever Luke is mentioned, we always get into a fight. 'Luke is evil! Why do you even trust him?' Percy always says and I say, 'He is not!'. And then, we get into a huge argument. Percy just has to insist that Luke is evil, but he's not! No one can truly be entirely evil, unless you're an ancient primordial and all of that jazz.

Percy will be just all fine and dandy until the subject of Luke turns up and his mood darkens. He becomes angry and...I just can't name the emotion that makes his body go rigid and his green eyes harden. Could it be extreme anger? Could it be envy? Could it be hidden sadness and pity for Luke?

I really do not know. Maybe I can identify that emotion if I watch Percy more closely. Not stalker-like close, just observant close, like a predator watching its prey. But, I won't attack him. At least I hope I wont't.....

I set down the pen and I read over what I have written. I'm sitting in the Pavilion at the Athena table, alone during some free time. The information on this paper describes what I'm feeling. I had no other outlet for my feelings, so I resorted to recording words on paper, never to be taken back. Why did I introduce myself? I don't know, maybe I just wanted to get myself acquainted with the inanimate object.

I mull over the facts once more. Percy and the subject of Luke equals Percy getting angry. Percy getting angry plus my defending of Luke equals huge argument. Body rigid, eyes harden.

I go through the facts once more. And then, it hits me.

I pick up my pen and I scrawl these words: Percy is jealous.

I set down my pen again. But, why? Another idea hits me. I write down: Percy is jealous of Luke. But, why?

I never really find out the answer to my question because I hastily fold the piece of paper and I stuff it in my jean pocket. I'm going to be late to archery class!

~Two Years Later~

I pull on a pair of jean shorts and I hear Percy exclaim, "Annabeth! You ready?" Today, we have the day to ourselves and we have decided to go out on the lake and to row there. Off course by that, I mean that we're going to push each other off of the boat, get totally wet, and have a good time.

I am about to turn to leave when I feel something in my pocket. I take it out and I unfold it. The paper! From two years ago.

Aw, Denial Annabeth is so cute! I heard one part of me exclaim.

I reread the whole note written in black pen and then I find another different colored pen. I write something down and I quickly run out the Athena Cabin door, exclaiming, "I'm coming!"

I left the paper on my desk. And on it, I wrote underneath my question: Percy is in love with me. He always has been.
