"Josh, come here!" said Megan, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him next to her into the empty seat.
She had already sat down with Lexie in one of the rows reserved for them, and was determined at all costs to prevent Nick from sitting next to her.
"Yeah, don't stress, Megs. I would have sat with you guys anyway. At least you guys are quiet, not like Daniel, who's going to start with his lady stories again."
"Well with me, you don't have to worry, because I'm going to sleep for the hour and a half," Megan said, sitting in the middle and now resting her head on Josh's shoulder.
Gradually the plane filled up with passengers and Daniel joined Nick in the row next to Megan and her two colleagues.
Nick was searching for his headphones in his carry-on luggage and before taking his seat again, his gaze slid across the rows of seats and lingered on Megan.
"How can someone look so peaceful and almost cute while sleeping and as soon as she opens her eyes be such a bitch?"
"What?" inquired Daniel, not having understood Nick's muttering.
With a nod, Nick pointed in Megan's direction, and Daniel followed his gesture.
"I asked how she can look like a cotton candy dream when she sleeps, but as soon as she opens her eyes, she turns into a bitch"
"Megster is not a bitch. She's often a bit dogged, yes, but only when it comes to work, in private she's a different person. You'd have to see her at our game nights. Don't be so hard on her. You guys got off to a rocky start - for whatever reason - but Megs is really fine."
"Game nights?" Nick asked his colleague with raised eyebrows, "So you guys do game nights?"
Daniel couldn't hold back his laughter, and it took him a few moments to respond to the question. "So that's the only thing you've heard now? You just don't want to admit that Megan can be nice, too. You want to see her as a bad guy, right? But to answer your question, which seems to be on your mind, yes, we all get together privately from time to time. We'll order food, pour cheap alcohol down our throats, and play games."
"Hm," was the only thing Nick uttered before his playlist through his headphones blocked out the sounds of his surroundings.
When Megan awoke from the brief sleep she had desperately needed and the plane had landed safely, she and her team made their way to the Wingate Hotel near the airport.
Whenever they were on a business trip and they needed to stay somewhere, their boss Geralt booked a hotel for them and they were never disappointed.
It wasn't a luxury hotel, but it was never a shabby motel either - this time, too, Mr. Dorton had shown good taste.
Two rooms were booked for the team, each with two double beds.
Megan and Lexie knew right from the start that they would be rooming together, so the gentlemen of the species would have to work out who would sleep in the same bed with whom.
"Hurry up, the others are probably already waiting," Lexie called to Megan, who was still in the hotel bathroom.
It was already evening and the team would meet in the men's room to discuss how to proceed with the case.
"I'm coming."
"I know you like that," Lexie laughed as Megan hopped into the room on one leg to quickly put on her gray sweatpants.
The path to her co-workers' room was not a long one, they merely passed one room door, on which Lexie knocked vigorously.
"It's open," they heard Josh's voice through the door.
