Part 22

In the evening, as agreed, Megan made her way to their regular bar to meet her colleagues and start the new year with them.

As she entered the bar and peeled herself out of her thick winter coat, her silver top came into view, reflecting the colors of the lights in the bar.

From a distance, she could already see Lexie and Daniel seated at their regular table with yet another man, who was unknown to her.

"Hey Megster!" Lexie called out to her, and Megan could tell by the pitch of her voice that she must have had a few drinks already.

"Hey guys."

"This is Steven by the way, an old friend from college who is currently in Washington for work, and is spending the evening with us tonight," Daniel introduced her to the dark-haired man with brown teddy bear eyes.

After Megan also introduced herself to him, she took a seat next to him and ordered herself a large beer as usual to start the evening.

"Hey Megs?", Lexie whispered to her as the two men were talking and pulling out old college stories.

"Yeah? Why are you whispering?"

"It's none of my business but my curiosity needs to be satisfied. I was out this morning in the city with Daniel because we were shopping and then I saw you. Um... leaving Nick's apartment complex. So there's something going on between you two?"

Megan went cold and hot at the same time, her stomach tightening and she didn't know what to say at first.
As if it wasn't enough that Nick's mother had shown up today, no now Lexie and Daniel had to catch on to it as well.

"I uhmm.. Yes. I was with him last night. It's all about sex between us though - nothing more, nothing less."

"Are you sure about that? I don't want to imply anything you guys but since you got back from the undercover mission, it seems like there's more to it than just sex."

Looking at her friend with wide eyes and disbelief, Megan didn't know what she meant.
In her eyes, Nick and her had acted like they had before. "What do you mean by that?"

"Well, the looks you guys give each other and all the touching?"

The team had noticed that Megan and Nick weren't acting like they had before.
They kept catching one of them staring at the other and smiling, or Nick's hand sliding over her neck and back as she showed him something on the computer.

"No, it's just sex ok? Don't interpret so much into it Ok?" said Megan with a serious look to add more emphasis to her statement.

"Ok. If you say so it will be true for better or worse.", Lexie grinned and took a big sip of her white wine drink.

In the next few minutes, Josh and his friend Colin joined them, and Nick also strolled through the door of the bar.

Megan shifted a bit nervously in her chair when she saw Nick enter the bar, she didn't know how to act.
She decided to start a conversation with Daniel's friendly friend, ignoring Nick at first and letting the others know that she wasn't eagerly waiting for him to show up.

When Megan threw him a small 'hello' and immediately went back to her conversation with Steven, he shrugged his shoulders and took a seat at the table as well.

He had spent the whole day with his parents and didn't feel like annoying Megan and testing her patience.
Nick was by now aware that Megan had her peculiarities and that sometimes you just couldn't understand what was going on in her head.

It was enough for him if he could just watch her and hoped to be able to tear off her skimpy silver top today.

"What was the commotion in the office yesterday?" asked Nick in the round to tear himself away from his thoughts.
