A shrill sound made Megan wake up from her sleep.
With a headache and a throat that resembled Sahara, she searched trough her white sheets for her cell phone.
After the guy in the club had spilled his drinks all over Megan, Megan and Regina had made their way home - there would have been no point in partying any longer.
Once again it was made clear to her why she hated going to clubs and why she hated men.
She preferred to stay at home with Regina and a couple of friends anyway, cooking together, sipping merrily and dancing together to a variety of songs.
Megan forced herself to get out of bed, it was already 10 o'clock and she had to get ready to meet her father for lunch and before that she had something to do herself.
Judging by the silence that reigned in the apartment, Regina was still walking in the land of dreams.
Clad only in a shirt that came just to her knees, she trudged with her bare feet into the kitchen, which was right next to her room, and she first made herself a cup of coffee to get going.
Rarely did she have such a calm start in the day. Most of the time she would frantically get ready for work and then quickly grab a coffee somewhere on the way there.
She was not a person who drank coffee for pleasure, she needed the caffeine to get going - which was also the reason why she drank her coffee without anything, just black.
While she took in the black hot brew, she looked at the city from the window in the living room.
It was already filled with life and people went their ways from A to B and Megan often wondered where these paths would lead them, what life these strangers would live and whether they were happy with it.
As for herself, she could say that she was satisfied with her life so far.
She had achieved everything she wanted so far - she was successful in her job, she had a best friend she trusted with her life, loved her family and lived in a beautiful apartment in a nice location.
Slowly the caffeine began to take effect and Megan noticed that her body and mind were slowly waking up and the droning in her head from the alcohol was slowly disappearing.
To finally get ready for the day and to clear her head, Megan stood under the shower and let the hot water drizzle down on her.
Whenever she had enough time and took a long shower, the bathroom resembled a steam sauna.
After taming her chin-length hair, she went to her room.
For today it should be something comfortable and she picked the parts of the outfit that she had already planned in her head together.
A pair of tight black jeans of which she owned so many, a rust-colored knitted sweater, a denim jacket and ankle boots were the outfit to go.

Almost hectically Megan ran through the streets, she had overlooked the time and was too late.
It was only 10 minutes after the agreed time but she knew that her father hated unpunctuality.
Completely out of breath, she entered the Italian restaurant and immediately spotted her father Eric and stepmother Sarah.
"Hey guys, sorry, I lost track of time when I was with mom," Megan said as she slipped out of her jacket and sat down in a chair across from them.
"No problem sweetie, what's going on that you went to visit your mom?" asked her father, who knew too well that Megan only visited his wife's grave when she needed to get something off her chest.
