Once they got the ok from Dorton, they also immediately started planning.
New identities were created, IDs forged, accents practiced, and of course Lexie and Megan went in search of the right outfit.
On Wednesday afternoon they walked through the city, gradually approaching the cold season and the cool wind already almost sharply brushed the faces of the two.
They had their destination clearly in mind, the secondhand store around the corner that sold only the finest designer clothes.
"And do you already have in mind what Ms. Liana Evans will wear?" asked Lexie curiously.
"No, maybe a classic little black one?"
Together they entered the thrift store through the heavy black cast iron door, which was finished with gold leaf.
The store itself was huge and you could almost get the impression that you could definitely tear into Narnia here.
Endless walls with white ornaments on the ceiling, red carpet that met the white marble tiles of the staircase, huge windows with round arches from which you could see directly into the bustling city and of course tons of clothes racks and expensively dressed mannequins.
"Good afternoon ladies, can I help you?" came from the saleswoman standing behind the counter.
"Good afternoon, no thank you, we're just looking around for now," Lexie declined gratefully.
Megan had already disappeared between the racks of clothes, her fingers sliding over the dresses as she passed the expensive fabrics.
Here you could find everything your heart desired, from elegant A-line, to sexy bodycon dresses, to fabulous Cinderella ball gowns from the best and most expensive brands in the fashion world.
Even though Megan wasn't really much into fashion and was more the casual sporty type in private, she has found a piece or two here for certain occasions.
"How about this?" laughed Lexie as she held up a pink balloon dress with feathers and rhinestones.
"Yeah sure Lex, I've always wanted to look like a plucked flamingo."
Some time passed until everyone had picked out a few dresses and Lexie was the first to venture into the dressing room, gradually squeezing into the dresses and presenting them to Megan.
After Lexie had presented a few flops, she had decided on the last dress.
A sky blue A-line dress which went down to her knees, with a heart neckline and with short butterfly sleeves.
With her long blonde hair she looked like Barbie and therefore being so completely the opposite of the edgy leather jacket wearing Lexie, it was a perfect fit for the undercover mission.
It was Megan's turn, she was sure she would choose the black bodycon dress with the ruffles on the side.
But then she slipped into an A-line dress by Balmain.
It had a plunging back neckline, a layer of lace in candy apple nestled over the black satin underskirt.
"Wow." it escaped Megan as she looked at herself in the mirror, spinning once in a circle "What do you say?" she asked Lexie, who just stared at her in wonder.
"Even though you may not wear it to this gala, you have to take the dress with you!"
For just under $800, Megan bought the dream in red that had originally cost almost $2,000.
Hungry from the shopping tour, the two friends decided to go to a restaurant that was only a few meters away from the thrift store.
'Swirling Goblet Kitchen' was the name of the restaurant, where they also ordered food from time to time.
