a few hours earlier

After getting her nibbles, Megan had immediately headed back to the motel.

In her head, her gears were turning, she was thinking about how she could straighten things out with Nick and she was also trying to figure out if there weren't more feelings towards him than she suspected.

She had just arrived at a side street.
The side street that led to the motel, which was only a few meters away.

She was so lost in her thoughts that she had not noticed that a person had been following her for some time.

Only when it was too late and she felt the sting in her neck, she realized that something was not at all right, but before she realized what was happening, she went black.

Still waiting for Lexie to finally take the call, he was already running back to the motel parking lot, hoping that he would miraculously run into Megan.

"Hey what's -"

"Megan, she's disappeared. For hours... I ... I can't find her...," Nick interrupted.

"What, wait, calm down for once and tell me exactly what happened."

Nick tried to stay calm as best he could even though panic was building inside him.

While he told Lexie about the circumstances, he literally ran up and down the surrounding streets until he ended up in a side street.

'Buttercup please don't have been stupid enough to run this way.'

The side street was narrow and sparsely lit, with garbage cans every few feet to the left and right that belonged to restaurants that could be entered from the main street.

"Butterfingers," he interrupted Lexie a second time.

"Do you have her?"

"No, but I found a packet of Butterfingers next to a bag of chips lying on the ground here." Nick looked around searchingly as he told Lexie about his find.

His heart was racing as if he had just run a marathon when a few more feet away, he found a bar of her favorite chocolate.

"Don't panic now, Nick. Megs isn't the only person in the world who buys this stuff," Lexie said, trying to appear calm, when in reality she had also already jumped out of her bed and was just putting a gray sweater over her head.

"Don't panic? Buttercup has disappeared! How am I supposed to not panic? Has Dean even been locked up or is he still on the loose?"

•••

When Megan opened her eyes again she didn't know how much time had passed.
Her limbs felt heavy, as if they didn't belong to her body, and her head was pounding.

Slowly, her vision sharpened and when she realized where she was, her pulse rate spiked and she was in a cold sweat.

She was sitting in a small room on a mattress.
The room was lit only by a dim lamp on the ceiling and at the far end of the room was a sink with a toilet next to it.

Panic set in and she had the urge to escape this nightmare.

As Megan jumped up in a single bound to run for the door, she felt something holding her back by her ankle before she hit the floor and went full speed.

A loud groan escaped her as she scrambled to her feet. She sat down on the cold stone floor and noticed that a cuff was attached to her ankle, which was locked with a lock and a chain was attached to it, which led to the wall and was fastened there.
