That same evening, the team flew together back to Washington, D.C.
After the hour-and-a-half flight and a 20-minute cab ride, Megan finally arrived at her apartment complex, exhausted.
Glad to be back home, but also with a bitter taste due to the discovery of the body, she took the elevator to the third floor of the building.

She just wanted to end today with a hot shower before going to bed.
As soon as she unlocked the door, she could hear voices coming from the apartment, and when she entered, she knew she was right.

In the living room sat Regina with her childhood friend Amber and Janine and Anna, with whom Megan had been friends since college.

"Hey Megster!" exclaimed Janine, coming running toward her to pull her into a hug. The blonde natural beauty worked as an accountant at a highly prestigious company and hoped to eventually make it in the fashion world with the modeling jobs she had on the side.

"Hey guys, what are you doing here?" asked Megan, still puzzled by the welcoming committee.

"You texted me that you were coming home today. So I figured it would be a perfect time to reunite the girl group once again," Regina said while meanwhile fetching a wine glass from the glass cabinet in the living room for Megan, as for the others.

Now Amber and Anna approached her as well, and they sank into a group hug.

Amber, who was Regina's childhood friend, was a fashion designer. Her looks already, radiated that she was a creative mind, she didn't go with fashion trends, she shopped her clothes in thrift stores and if something didn't fit, it was made to fit.
She had also tailored a few things for Megan and so there were a few unique pieces hanging in Megan's closet.

Anna was the free spirit of the group.
She had an esoteric store in the city and sold there one or the other, as she always called it, "magic potion".
Even though Megan didn't believe in many things, she had to admit that Anna's herbal concoctions had often helped her out of a predicament - she swore by the homemade cough syrup made from spruce tops.

On the whole, one could say that this group of girls was a colorful and funny bunch.

"So tell me, did you solve the case, Sherlock?" asked Regina, who just handed her a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

"If you only knew," Megan plopped down on the couch with her glass of wine and leaned her head back, "Yes we solved the case, the suspect was apprehended and quickly confessed to it as well. However, we stumbled upon something else, something bigger and depending on what the investigation reveals we may be assigned this case."

"Oh is that a good thing or a bad thing now?" replied Amber to her.

"In principle, new cases are always a good thing, so we don't run out of work, but you just have to remember that these cases also involve real people. And sometimes it's not really easy to differentiate that and not take that home with you."

"And what about your new colleague? Regina told us you're getting a new one?" asked Anna, sitting cross-legged in front of her like a curious child.

"Regina? Remember that guy at the club? HE's the new one."

"Oh my god, the one who bought us the drinks? You're lucky to have such eye candy at your work, I can't say the same for me at work," Regina laughed.

"No, not the one who bought us the drinks, but the one who spilled the drinks all over me."

"But he was cute too, wasn't he?"

"He's definitely not a bad looking guy, but his nature just sucks. And then there's what happened to me from yesterday to today," Megan told her friends about her nighttime half-sleep hike, and they listened intently.
