Because the FBI, after Nick had informed them about the incident, had cordoned off the entire district, the local press had also gotten wind of the whole fuss.

When Nick together with Megan in his Mustang, turned into the street, where the main building of the FBI's was located, they could already see from a distance that there was a flurry of reporters in front of the entrance.

Every newspaper threw itself like a lion on the case.

Every newspaper wanted to be the one that had the best photos of the victims or the perpetrator on the cover, followed by a story and in the best case followed by an interview.

Nick noticed Megan nervously bobbing her legs and playing with the rings on her fingers.

Of course he was aware that the whole situation in itself meant enormous stress for Megan and that the trauma was rekindling in her.

And of course he was aware that all the commotion here would not add anything good to her general condition.

He put his hand in hers and squeezed it lightly.

Her gaze met his eyes, which on the one hand radiated concern, but on the other hand reassured her.

With a faint smile, she let him know she was ready.

After a moment's thought, Nick drove on - once around the main building, to get at the rear side into the strictly monitored underground parking.

Meanwhile, in the interrogation room

Lexie pulled her ponytail tight once more before entering the chilly-looking room, which was lit with artificial light.

In the center was a metal table.Behind it? The alleged kidnapper of Megan and the victims they had found in the last months.

As the female jogger had described, his head was adorned with light blond hair, which was groomed to one side as if it were from a show horse.

If Lexie didn't know his age, she would guess him to be in his mid-40s early 50s.

He made a neat impression in his black suit with red tie on which was a pin from his company.

His wrists were encircled by handcuffs, which were fastened to the table.

When Lexie entered the room, she was met by the man's cold gaze, with his brown teddy bear eyes, which looked too trustworthy for her taste

.On the whole, he looked like the nice neighbor from whom one borrowed sugar from time to time.

"Not the agent I wanted."

The voice of him struck Lexie as slimy and sugary at the same time - a mixture that almost made her want to puke.

"I'm Special Agent Wood, and I'm the only agent you get to see."

"Pleased to meet you Agent Alexandra Wood, you probably know my name by now."

A cold shiver ran down Lexie's spine as he addressed her by her full name.

In her career as a special agent at the FBI, she had already conducted a zillion interrogations, but still, there was always an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach when she realized that one of the psychopaths seemed to know something about her.

"Yes, Mr. Thompson but what is more interesting to me is what you have to tell us."

"Well, there's so much I could tell you, you'll have to be a little more specific in your questions."
