Lexie sat down on a chair next to Nick, who was staring at the screen with tired eyes, watching surveillance camera footage, hoping that at some point the silver Chevrolet would show up again.
"Here Nick, take a break while I continue watching the tapes," Lexie said as she pushed the bag filled with Chinese food and a Coke over to him.
Without taking his eyes off the monitor, he opened the cold bottle and took a big swig, pushing the food aside.
He didn't have time for his own needs; he had to find Megan.
The oppressive silence in the sporadically furnished motel they were still in, was interrupted by the ringing of a phone.
"Agent Jones? Yes ... Yes... ok yes we'll be there as soon as we can."
"Who was that?" asked Lexie her boyfriend.
"Come on guys we have to go. We need to get to the police station, another clue may have popped up."
Just as Daniel finished his sentence, Nick jumped out of his chair and slipped into his black leather jacket before hurriedly leaving the room.
They had been sitting on finding Megan for two weeks now.
In those two weeks, the FBI had made some progress in tracking down and arresting the group that was trying to access the satellites, but for Nick and the rest, it was just a drop in the bucket.Finding Megan was the highest priority, even if they had to move heaven and hell to find her.
Her father had also returned from retirement due to the events and was leading another team in Washington, which like Lexie's team, was busy searching for Megan.
As fast as the traffic allowed, they raced through the streets to get to the evidence as quickly as possible.
When they entered the police station, a dark-skinned man in uniform was already waiting for them.
"Good afternoon agents, my name is Sean Harris. A few hours ago, a young woman showed up here who wanted to press charges. But it's best to hear what she has to say for yourself."Lexie, Nick, Josh and Daniel nodded in agreement and followed the strongly built man down the hall until they arrived in a room from where they could see through a double mirror into the interrogation room.
Sitting in the interrogation room was a young woman, Nick estimated her to be around her mid-20's.
She had dark hair and strikingly fair skin - looking almost porcelain.Even though the woman was sitting up straight, you could tell by her long legs that she was taller than the average woman.
She looked shaken, her scrawny body was trembling and her eyes were swollen and red from crying.A policewoman had taken a seat next to her and was having a calming conversation with her, while the distraught woman sipped at the cup, which was filled with hot tea.
"I'll talk to her," Nick interrupted the silence.
"No, that's not a good idea. I'm going in there.", Lexie said as she stepped into his path.
"It's about Megan! I'm going in there, we have to find her."
"I know Nick, and we'll find her too but you're too emotionally involved and the woman sitting in the next room is visibly traumatized," she put her flat hand on his chest which was moving up and down rapidly under his breathing and where she could feel his heart beating furiously, "Nick, trust me. I'll do this and we'll find Megan - I promise."
Nick looked at his blonde superior, in her eyes he could see the same pain as in his when he looked in the mirror.
The disappearance of Megan was tugging at everyone's nerves, and the more time passed, the more the stress and anxiety became apparent on their faces.
