He was ready.

He had never been so close to his goal.

Never before had his dream been so close.

The dream of his own little miss perfect.

He had already disinfected her legs with an iodine solution, but before he started he checked her vital signs again.

He wanted to make sure that everything was fine with her.

That she would survive the procedure and he would not have to start over again.

Pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation were in the normal range, he stroked her head again which she turned to the side and then took his place at the end of the operating table.
Next to him was a small wheeled table, on which he had already sorted the surgical instruments neatly next to each other.

He took the 10-blade scapel and took another deep breath before placing the sharp blade on the marked line.

As with Sarah before, the cold metal slid into her flesh as if through butter.

Blood poured from the now ten-inch-long cut as he heard a rumble upstairs in the house.
With sterile cloths, he plugged the open wound to stop the bleeding.

Adrenaline pumped through his body.
He couldn't place the sounds, after all, there was no one in the house except himself and the captives in the cell.

With his elbows, he pressed a button placed on the wall next to the entrance door.
Images from his surveillance cameras appeared on the large screen above Megan's sedated body and he saw men making their way through the house.

After Aurelia testified at the police station, the whole team set out to find the vehicle described and its owner.

It turned out to be a rental car and according to the dealership, the renter's name was Greg Wilson.

After further research, Josh had a bull's eye.
He had not only found Greg Wilson but also the house he had rented nearby.

With an entire convoy of FBI vehicles, they arrived in a small idyllic suburb.

As in a movie, one meticulously manicured front yard bordered another.

American flags, which were attached to the poles of the porches, waved in the wind.

Children played together in the front yards while others rode their bicycles carefree along the street.

The whole residential street seemed carefree and almost as if no crime could ever take place here, but all the agents knew all too well that appearances could be deceiving.

The house they were looking for was in the middle of the residential street. Under the curious gaze of the neighbors, they parked the car in the driveway and the street.

One by one, heavily armed agents exited the vehicles, including Nick, Lexie, Josh and Daniel.

Nick tightened the Velcro on his bulletproof vest before pulling his Glock 17 out of the gun holster and entering the house with the team and loaded gun.

He tried as much as he could to put the thoughts of Megan out of his mind, he had to concentrate and could not afford to be distracted.

When they had searched the upper floors for the suspects to no avail, Nick spotted the steel door in the storage room, which he suspected would lead to the basement.

Together with Daniel and other agents from various special units, they opened the door and crept down the metal stairs into the basement.

An apparent labyrinth of corridors leading in all directions revealed itself to them and Nick radioed the others that they needed reinforcements down here.
