"That wasn't too bad, Y/N. You wanna do another take?" asked a studio assistant through a recording booth's talkback mic.

The drummer waved a hand, signaling it was over, and slid his drum sticks back into a nearby black stick bag. That was the third take and he was done. Dave, the assistant, nodded and started making final adjustments while the drummer broke down down his drum set.

Meet Y/N L/N, a session drummer at M Studio. Being one meant he had to stay up to date in multiple forms, like today; loved playing beats for rap groups that wanted acoustic percussion.

Y/N closed the back door of his sedan after loading up the last of his drums: cymbals in the front, hardware on the floorboard, and drums in their cases in the trunk. His playlist blasted through the speakers after he started the car.

Helped that his roommate was as eclectic as his taste in music.

"Yo, I'm home! Can I get a hand?" Y/N called out to seemingly no one in his apartment.

"Just a sec!" a woman's voice called from the living room. Few seconds later he heard GAME! from the TV. "Ha! Hell yeah! Hey, Y/N! Sorry! What all's left?" There was Jinx, his friend and said roommate.

"Got the snare and toms in the back," he grunted, setting the bass drum behind the kitchen table. Two black, round canvas bags that held the cymbals were placed on the wooden surface.

"Good thing you do all that drum stuff with all this liftin' and carryin'."

"Even better that we're on the first floor." The two stepped outside to grab the rest of his stuff.

"You back at M tomorrow?"

"Yeah, doin' something with Yasuo. Wants me to give him some sample beats."

The roommates carried the rest of the drums inside. After that, Jinx opened the fridge,  grabbed a couple beers, and handed one to Y/N. "Imagine: someone new, up-and-coming, goes there tomorrow, hears you playing, wants you with them, and you actually take them up."

Y/N took a drink before saying, "Ain't happening, Jinx. There's still too many groups doing this for the money."

"But you're the one wanting to go out and perform. Seems money driven, no?"

"Far from it. I wanna be in a group that loves the music as much as the money. This pays enough, Jinx. I just want to get out and play music that everyone is singing back, that I made for them! But not many hear that calling."
