One week later
Y/N groggily woke up to his ringtone on the nightstand. "Who is calling me at-" The time read 11:37 AM. "Guess this is my wake-up call. Hello?" he grumbled.
"Heyyy, there he is! What's up, Y/N?" Akali said from the other end.
He took in a deep breath while stretching and putting the call to speaker. "I just woke up. And you, Akali? Wait. Lemme guess-"
"You in or you out for the tour?" she asked.
Yep. There it is. One week later and he was still flip-flopping on Akali's offer. She's been calling him every day since.
"You're persistent, you know that?"
"Thaaat's me! So? Yes?"
Y/N quietly sighed while rubbing his eyes. "I, still haven't decided."
"Well, how about you and your friend come over? Chat it out over lunch," Akali suggested.
Wow. She just won't give up.
The question is, why haven't you said yes?
.......
C'mon. You seriously still scared of him?
BAM
Y/N jolted upright in his bed. At the doorway stood Jinx, waving her phone. "Dude, you won't believe what's back at The Last Drop!" she exclaimed.
He took in a quick breath and said, "Lemme guess: spicy gator bites?"
"Yes. But! More importantly, Battle of the Bands!"
"R-Really?" Y/N was surprised to hear that. Battle of the Bands was something he attended a lot. But, about three years ago, a huge fight broke out. Another band was a sore loser and the guitarist slugged the winning band's singer. Half a dozen Enforcers were called in that night. Commissioner shut down the event, and Vander hadn't hosted one since. Guess that changed.
"Well, that's, great to hear, Jinx. Wanna go see it?"
"See it? Psssh, more than that! I wanna be in it!"
Y/N's eyebrows rose in shock. "You? Seriously?"
"Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence, dude! Some best friend you are," she said, folding her arms and pouting.
"That's n-not what I meant!" Y/N stuttered, immediately going into damage control mode.
Too bad Jinx couldn't keep a facade. "Gets ya every time!" she managed to say between her laughter.
Y/N sighed and ran a hand through his hair. May as well take a shower. "So, you joined a band? I know you've been practicing bass more this year," he said, opening the bathroom door.
"Just formed one! Well, a temporary one! Only for this show," Jinx clarified.
Y/N started brushing his teeth and asked, "Yeah. Who'sh in it?"
"There's me, and Sera's onboard for it. And of course, you!"
He started to cough; hard not to when choking on toothpaste. "E-E-Excuse me?!?"
"You heard right. You're the drummer!" Jinx said to him.
Y/N coughed a couple more times and asked, "What the hell!? Did you even think to ask!?"
"Course not! I don't need to 'cause I already signed us up."
Y/N felt lightheaded. Then, his ears started to ring.
He was shoved to the floor and a boot stood on his back. "If I catch your face playing live, it'll be the last time you'll play, period."
No. No, no, no, no, no, no.
He rinsed his mouth with water, then splashed more on his face. "....What the hell, Jinx?"
"What?"
"I said what the hell! I've never played live and you know why!"
"Pfffft. Yeah, and yet you keep wanting to." She leaned against the doorway and said, "Sounds to me like you're moving past that jackass's empty threats."
Far from it....I can't. I just can't!
"Hold up. Y/N is gonna play?!" Oh, shit. His phone was still on speaker. Akali just heard it all.
"Hey, Akali! That you?" Jinx said.
"Ya know it! Heard you're doing Battle of the Bands?" Akali asked her new friend.
"That's right! And my best friend is gonna join in."
"Ohhh, so that's why you haven't said yes. You're already in another band!"
"No, t-that's not-"
"That's dope! I'm sure y'all will kill it!" Akali exclaimed. "Hey, you know what? I'll come watch you play."
"W-Wait, I didn't say-"
"Hell yeah, girl. We could always use more in the crowd," Jinx said.
"Absolutely. I'll be there front row, cheering the loudest! I can't wait to hear you play again, Y/N!"
"Hang on. I-I still haven't-"
"Great! We'll watch for you out there. Show's this Friday at 8," Jinx informed.
Damnit. Can't get a word in edgewise.
"Sweet! I'll see how quietly I can sneak out. Have to watch out for Evelynn. Kai'sa already scolded me for missing dinner last time," Akali pouted.
"If she does, say I'll sic Y/N on her."
"Why did you say that?" Y/N groaned.
"Don't tempt her with a good time, Jinx. I'll catch you two later! See you!" He heard a beep, signaling the end of the call.
The friends locked eyes with each other. Y/N couldn't believe what Jinx had done. She gave him the smuggest smirk.
"I really have no say in this, do I?" he asked.
Jinx enthusiastically shook her head, her blue braids swinging around. "First practice tonight! Seraphine already got the heads up, and you're buying dinner!" With that, she sauntered away from his room. "Oh, and I'll send you the song we're playing," Jinx called out before walking back down the stairs.
Y/N was left alone with his thoughts. And they were to quick to close in on him.
Well, well. Guess you finally get your chance in the sun.
..........
This is what you wanted, right? He won't be anywhere near there. After all, it's been a year since you crossed his path.
Can't believe this. If I'm caught, I could lose everything I worked for!
He won't be. No time to deal with small fry like you.
Gee. Thanks. And I wonder why I ignore you sometimes.
If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be collaborating with K/DA, or have Akali as a friend. You're welcome, by the way.
There was a ping from his phone. Y/N picked it up and saw the text. It was Jinx with her song of choice. He couldn't help but let out a dry chuckle.
"She really loves to mess with me, doesn't she?" There was another ping, this one from Seraphine.
Just heard we get to play together! Can't wait for practice! So excited!
Y/N sighed and said to himself, "Just breathe, Y/N. Maybe, just maybe...." He clicked the link Jinx sent and let the song play while he changed.
