"Niall James! Stop that!" I squealed, slapping his shoulder.

"Whaaaat? I'm just tryin to dance, baby!" he whined, continuing to tickle my sides.

I laughed, gripping his hands and watching as he continued to sway to the beat of the music blasting around us.

"No, you're just trying to show off to your friends!"

I glanced over at Darragh and Sean, both of whom were giving Niall a thumbs up.

Niall's arm wrapped around my waist, his lips dangerously close to my ear.

"Oh c'mon babe... Help me out 'ere..." He whispered, pulling me close.

I rolled my eyes, a soft smile on my face as I pulled his head down for a kiss.

I gripped the collar of his shirt, his hands moving to my lower back as our lips collided.

We pulled away moments later, smiles on both our faces. I glanced back to his friends, who were shaking their heads side to side with amusement.

Niall and I walked around, catching up with loads of different people. Each new person I met, I felt more and more welcomed. They were all just so... Nice.

So far, I could tell that my Christmas was going to be great. Especially since I had Niall here with me.

Just as Niall and I were about to head to the kitchen, a strange buzzing in my pocket stopped me.

It was my phone.

I reached it out, quickly looking at the caller ID, surprised to find that the person calling me was...

My Mom?!

"I... I have to take this," I muttered, pulling out of Niall's arms.

I pushed my way to the front door, quickly answering my phone.

"Hi Mom! Merry Christmas Eve! I didn't expect you to-"

"Veronica..." She snapped, cutting me off mid-sentence.

Her tone was menacing, making my stomach churn with worry. I quickly opened the door, stepping out into the chilly night air.

It was already starting to snow... Tomorrow would be a white Christmas.

"Sorry, Niall's parents are having a party, and I got a bit-"

"Veronica, enough!!" She spat again, causing me to jolt.

I swallowed, pacing in the fresh snow.

"I-is everything okay?"

There was a long pause on the other line.

"I'm... Veronica I'm calling for a very important reason... I need you to be all ears," she spoke, her voice shaky.

I didn't like this... Something was wrong.

"Is everything okay mom? Are you alright?" I asked worriedly.

She hesitated a moment, her breathing getting heavier by the minute.

"No. No Veronica. I-it's not alright! You... You've gotten out of control."

I walked down the pathway from the porch to the driveway, drawing in the snow with my foot.

"How so?" I asked, the anger inside me boiling.

"You aren't home anymore Veronica!!! You're spending way to much time at that college, and-"

"What?! A-are you fucking insane?! Mom I'm here to get an education, an education like you wanted!!!"

It was silent a moment on the other line, before her voice broke.
