A/N: Listen to "Savin' Me" by Nickleback while reading this chapter
----------Niall's POV---------
"No, god No!" I sobbed, sinking into my couch. I'd just gone out of control... I almost hurt Ronnie. I was this close to getting her back, but I had to go and fuck everything up like always.
I brought my hands to my face, crying into them as I laid down. I cursed as a sharp pain shot through my back, the television turning on moments later. I sat up, looking down angrily at the remote I'd just laid on.
Fucking remote.
I reached down to turn off the tv when suddenly, something caught my eye. It looked like Ronnie's dorm... on fire?!
I quickly turned up the volume, listening as the reporter talked about a fire that was taking place at a college campus.... my college campus. The camera panned around again, showing the fire brigade sprinting up to the building with ladders and hoses.
"As of now we are not sure whether anyone is inside or not, but I'll keep you updated," the reporter stated. The camera zoomed in on the building, showing the window one of the mass of flames was escaping from. It only took me a minute to notice by the flaming curtains who's window it was....
Ronnie's.
I immediately pulled out my phone, dialing her number.
"Pick up... pick up..." I mumbled, waiting for her to answer. But she didn't. My heart pounded faster. She had to be out, right!? I'd seen her only moments ago...
The more I sat, the more anxious I became. Suddenly, without hesitation, I ran out the door, not bothering to lock it behind me. I sprinted as fast as I could towards her building, where thick black smoke was pluming up to the sky. I looked around at all the girls from the building standing around looking annoyed and upset... but none of them were Ronnie. Pushing through the crowd, I spotted the door, rushing up to it and plotting out which stairs would lead me to Ronnie's floor quicker. But before I could reach it, someone yanked me back by the arm.
"Woah, woah, woah, kid! What are you doing!? You can't go in there!" a police officer stated firmly.
"You don't understand, my fiancé is in there!" I cried.
"You can't go in there! I'll notify the fire brigade, and we'll send someone to get her out," he replied, rushing towards the fire men. They were going to be too late... I just knew it. I watched as he turned his back to me, taking the opportunity to run inside. I could hear his shouts as the door shut behind me.
The entire lobby was filled with smoke. I quickly covered my mouth and nose with my shirt, rushing to the entrance of the stairs. Climbing up, I rushed to Ronnie's floor, shoving open the door. The minute I did, I was met with black smoke to the face. It stung my eyes, nearly blinding me as I pushed forward. I had to keep going... I had to find her. I began calling her name, inching my way through the hall.
"Ronnie!" I coughed, desperately listening for an answer. But there was none. I pressed myself against the wall, feeling for the outline of the room numbers. I was only a few doors down from hers. I ran to her door, touching the handle and jumping back as it burned my hand.
Shit. The fire is in her room.
I ran to the other side of the hall, quickly running back towards her door and knocking it down with all the strength I had. Embers flew everywhere, the fire quickly engulfing the door in flames on the floor.
"Ronnie!" I screamed, walking into the room.
I listened desperately, nearly breaking down into tears when I hear a small, weak voice cough,"Help."
I carefully maneuvered my way through the flames, rushing to the doorway of the bathroom, where Ronnie's figure was outlined on the ground.
"Ron!" I cried, jumping in to scoop her up. I lifted her lifeless body, looking at the dark black soot smudged around her face. She was alive... but she wouldn't be for much longer unless I got her out of here.
I quickly carried her bridal style, taking a towel to cover our mouths. I couldn't let her die... she couldn't die.
I held her close as I ran through the door, out of the room and into the hallway. I was sweating now... it was getting hotter by the second. But we were going to make it... we were going to make it!
Just as I was about to run through the door, a cracking sound caught my attention. I looked around, widening my eyes as I watched a beam from the ceiling fall. As fast as I could, threw Ronnie away from me, just as the beam crashed down, knocking me unconscious.
