Why was everything so colourful and shape-y?

I hummed an off-key version of the Friends theme.
"I don't think your fine... do you need to lie down?"Drew wondered.
" 'S okay! Completely fine... and stuff."I could feel the desert sun beating down on us even worse than before, like it was melting my skin.

I felt like I was thrown into a pit of ankle-biting toddlers and then lit on fire. But then someone put me in a constant state of dizziness, mixed in with some strange hallucinations. Like... why was Drew... blue?

"Don't leave me 'ere or your mom'll kill me..."I covered my eyes from the sun, my entire body felt numb and tingly. I still slurred when I spoke.
"You know I wouldn't do that."Drew took another bandaid from her pocket, sticking it onto my nose.

"Thanks,"I mumbled. Wow. She was a great doctor.
"Were almost there!"She smiled.
"Where..?"I asked.
"The gates out of here, silly."

I wiped the sweat off my forehead, staring off of the horizon.

It felt like we'd been walking for the past twelve hours, but eventually... we made it. The gates were red and spiked, with skulls decorating them, classy. Drew walked up to the person at the gate.

"I want entrance to the mortal world."She calmly said.
"What do you got there?"The guard referred to me, who was staring at a butterfly... wait.... it might've been a hallucination... because it was talking.
"Excuse me, that's MY bussiness, sir."Drew nudged me.

"Right. Right... and where in the mortal realm do you want to go?"The guard smirked. Drew looked at me.

"Oh... Uhm- I-Iowa."I had no idea why I said Iowa. I could've said anything else. But... IOWA? IOWA?!

The guard grinned, opening the gates. And Drew pushed me through.

I lie on the floor, staring at the surprised faces of Aella and Valentina.
"Erik!?"Valentina stared down at me, I waved.
