I caught Erik just barely.
His feathers felt soft like a warm blanket, I smiled.
"He got us in."Aella mumbled, walking through the palace gates. Octavia shrugged, following. I did the same. I listened to Erik's huffs as he breathed, it made me less nervous and jittery. I breathed in. Your confident. You can do this, I told myself.
"Look, my mother's pretty twisted. This place is probably riddled with traps."Aella watched her every step.
"Noted,"Octavia said.Erik's snores filled the echoe-y hallways. "Where would she keep her crown, exactly?"I asked, looking at pictures of the empress of Hell. I had to admit, she was really pretty.
"I'd expect it to be on a pedestal of some sort."Aella looked around carefully.
"Val..."Erik mumbled in his sleep, which shattered my heart(in a good way.)
"This place gives me the creeps."I said, Octavia nodded.I walked into a wall.
"Ow."I mumbled, since when had this wall been here? Suddenly, more walls appeared. Leaving the house in a maze-like state. The others seemed to be closed off from me, too. Erik uneasly whimpered. I looked back at him, an arrow stabbed into his leg. My eyes widened.
Suddenly, I heard a trip wire go off. Another arrow shot at me, piercing through my arm.
"Agh!"I staggered."Booby traps,"Erik pointed out groggily, blood gushing from his wound. My vision blurred as I looked at the arrow in my arm. Why did life have to be so hard? This next part's a bit foggy, but I think I passed out.
I slipped into unconciousness. I dreampt of something I'd rather forget. I was in my old private school.
I sighed, fixing my hair in my locker's mirror. Why did I keep reliving this dream? Soon... A Hell hound pounced on me, snarling and scratching my arms. But everyone else did nothing. They were all mortals... they couldn't see it.
I screamed in pain, no one payed attention to me.
"Please..."I mumbled. Not a soul replied. My open wounds glowed in front of me, I fell into an endless void. The scene shifted.
I lie in an ocean of ink-like liquid. Not a strange dream, but not a normal one, either. Normal in demi-demon terms, that is. I couldn't stand, talk, or do anything but hear voices whispering to me.
"Relax. Let us consume you."One whispered, I could feel myself sinking.
"Yes. Give in."Another said. I tried to fight it, but couldn't.
"No."I said.
"Yes,"A voice whispered, making me sink farther.
"Val! Wake up!"A voice said to me.I woke up.
My vision was blurry, but I think Erik stood over me. His leg was wrapped up with bandages, my arm was, too.
"We ran out of Hell-fire,"Aella said.
"AKA liquid gross."Erik grinned, I could see the dark circles under his eyes.I moved my arm, wincing. Erik only limped when he walked, making me guess that the remaining hell-fire was used to heal him.
"We got you past most of the traps, we just need to find the crown."Octavia explained.
"Yeah..."I stood up, my legs slightly wobbly."The quest is back on!"Erik announced, a couple feathers still visbly sprouting from his skin.
And we went on our way, the pain I felt made me want to puke, but I moved on. My quiver felt heavy on my back, my bow slung across my chest. The dark hallways echoed our footsteps. And then, we finally made it. We were in the empress of Hell's bedroom.
It was very emo.
