~ 2000 ~
A small 10 year old girl sat still and emotionless with her knees huddled to her chest. She wasn't crying, nor was she sad. She simply felt nothing, she was empty.
Everyone she cared about was dead, again. There was no point in trying anymore was there? Why bother when the cycle would just repeat itself? Why keep going when everyone she cared about was dead?
Not only had she lost one family, but two, and all at the mere age of 10. She had experienced grief that not even most adults could ever imagine.
The girl wasn't so sure she even deserved to live after the atrocity she had just committed. Even so, she didn't regret her actions, however a 10 year old shouldn't have been able to do what she did.
Loud steps approached her, but she didn't care who it may be. She still kept her gaze fixed on the same spot on the ground in front of her.
A tall boy with short black hair and kind eyes squatted down in front of the soaked child, his eyes filled with sympathy as he looked over her injured body.
"Hey kid, you alright?" He asked, but he felt as if he wasn't really there, like she hadn't heard him.
"You come from the orphanage?" He asked and that's when the girls cool blue eyes snapped to him, a startled look in them as she backed away from the man who held his hands up in defence.
"Hey hey! I didn't mean to scare you! We're not going to hurt you I swear." He said as he took another step back and she then eyed the men who stood behind him.
Taking note of where her gaze was, he looked over his shoulders towards his men who also looked sympathetic, and they backed off a little in hopes to not scare the poor girl.
When her eyes shifted back to the dark haired boy in front of her, that's when she noticed his kind dark eyes.
"My name is Sano Shinichiro, but you can call me Shin." He said sending her a warm smile, one she couldn't return. She could feel his warmth and read his character, something she had learned to do over the years. He had one of the most calming presence she had ever experienced, one similar to a boy she had looked up to over the years.
A boy who was now gone.
"We heard all about what happened here. Don't worry, my men won't let those bas- I mean people come near you again." He told her and she nodded slightly. It was the most reaction he had gotten out of her this entire encounter.
He wasn't sure what to do. He didn't want to leave her out here, but wondered if his family would be alright offering her a place to stay. Before he could even ash, he felt a weight on his back and a loud "oof" left his lips knowing exactly what caused it.
"You're not meant to be out here, Manjiro." Shinichiro scolded his little brother who was now peering over his shoulder at the drenched girl in front of him.
