THEN
"You left her alive?" Prudence barked when Drake and Hector told her what happened she showed her their newest prize.
"She's as good as dead don't worry about it"
"Yeah Pru don't worry about it" Drake added.
"Why didn't you just bring her?"
"She was too thin and not a fighter it wouldn't have been fun"
"Fun? are you serious? If she wakes up-"
"She won't" Drake said bitterly, he knew how to get rid of someone, he knew how to kill.
"If she wakes up" Prudence yelled but hushed herself as she saw Agnes head for the house, a basket of eggs in hand "you better pray that she dies" Prudence bit out. "You got the eggs?" Prudence's whole atmosphere changed, a smile pierced her face and her eyes lit with joy as Agnes hugged her. "Why don't you go back and fix it" Prudence said in a high pitched innocent voice as she helped Agnes with the eggs. "Get rid of it and bring me a new one perhaps?" It was staged as a question but Drake and Hector knew that if they didn't handle things Prudence would take her rage out on them and not the caged beasts.
NOW
Saoirse sat staring blankly at her television as she rubbed at her eyes. She felt at her face and found dried tears that ran down her face, she didn't remember what happened and for a single moment she forgot about Trevor. Then she saw the bandage on her hand from the previous night, it clicked into place, she saw the officers marching through her front door, when Officer Irons and Coleman were here. Then it all came flowing back and her eyes drifted back to the television. It was off but her eyes stayed fixated on it. Her dog Bruno adjusted slightly off the couch and made a noise of urgency. Saoirse didn't move at first, she sat still. She heard her dog whine again that he had to go to the bathroom but she could not physically pull herself away from her spot. Bruno barked three times in a deep loud tone that pulled her back to reality. She was imagining a new life, really waiting to wake up from this awful dream. To wake up from the dream she thought she was in, where nothing was right and everything was falsely her fault. But Bruno barked again and she looked over at him begrudgingly. He gave a final warning and she got up slowly swinging her legs over the edge of the couch, stepping on a dog toy in the progress and making her way to the leashes.
She threw on a jacket and headed down the stairs to the real world outside her apartment building. She didn't have work today, Becket had told the supervisors of what happened and they recommended she take some time off and let the whole 'your ex is missing thing' sink in a bit before trying to help heal people. She agreed because she was so tired and in all honestly she didn't feel right helping anyone when she could barely help herself.
As the cool air hit her she sucked in a harsh breath, blinking rapidly to keep her eyes from tearing up. She wanted to scream. She knew why she wanted to scream, because she hadn't yelled and cursed, she hadn't made a big scene after the initial smashing of Trevor's car and trashing her apartment. She walked for half a mile before she reached the park. The playground was vacant of children and no one seemed to be walking the path. Bruno pulled out of her grasp and went to wander while Saoirse stood tall, mouth a gap, fists clenched and screamed. Birds in neighboring trees flew away, a nearby squirrel looked confused and ran up the tree it was closest to. For that moment all seemed to stop, all seemed to fade away, her voice rang out in the early morning air. She felt like the smallest weight was lifted off her shoulders that was until a voice broke her peace...
"Miss Greer?" Saoirse turned, white in the face only to see Officer Max Coleman sauntering towards her.
"What Max?" She bit out, annoyed and upset that he ruined her moment of release.
