BEFORE

When their father died, Hector, Drake and Prudence were all grown up, late 20s and 30s. They still lived at home, still lived with him, still did as he did, did as he asked, and did as they were told. They never felt the need for anything more because what he gave them was what they always wanted. A family, a real family that embraced their rage and anger. He gave them forever and always, a bond better then blood relations, just blood itself.

They wouldn't bury their father they would devour him just as he would have wanted, but even these monsters felt bad as they picked at his liver and lung. He trained them to not have feelings, to be brutal and killers but they cared about one another, and they cared about their father, they couldn't just turn that off.

Drake rose quickly spilling his plate onto the floor, the plate breaking on impact.

"I can't, I won't" he said defiantly as he marched up the stairs. He knew he was acting like a child but right now he didn't feel like a man. They had sliced up their father, they were going to do as he requested... but he just couldn't and Prudence felt the same. She moved slowly to her room, her feet dragging up the stairs. Hector however sat and stared at his father's organ grilled in front of him.

Their father would have wanted this, he trained him to be ruthless and that's what Hector was going to do. It was a sign of respect even if he cringed and wanted to vomit the moment the meat touched his tongue. Maybe they weren't his perfect monsters after all.

"I need a sister" Prudence announced over dinner as she removed the remains of Billy from the table, shoving him into the cooler.

"You want to take someone?"

"Like dad took us?" Her brothers questioned and she nodded. They had never taken anyone before, well never to keep alive at least. They had never needed too, they were enough. But with their father gone, there was a missing piece in their lives and Prudence needed someone else.

"I will find her." She stated joyously as she threw the plates in the sink.

"Be careful, dad didn't teach us-"

"I know" she said bitterly.

"I'm sorry Pru-"

"I know" she repeated softly.

She was careful when picking and choosing. She would chose a girl that was beautiful. She would pick a little girl that would look up to Prudence, a girl that had strength and power within her. She would choose a young girl, impressionable, a girl that Prudence could mold into her, like their father did with them, with her.

Prudence wanted a sister all her life, a beautiful girl to raise and take care like their father took care of them. So when she saw this little girl with deep brown hair and a smile so wide the clouds split and the sun was forced to come through, she knew she needed this little girl. Her brother wasn't paying any attention to her. He was texting his friends about the schools dance and who he was going to invite. He didn't bother looking at the girl that was so focused on him, his little sister. He wasn't listening when she asked to go and play at her friends or that she wanted the purple stuffed animal and not the pink one. He wasn't listening to her, he wasn't taking advantage of the time he had with her. She would be better with Prudence, Prudence had thought as she watched them followed them. That little girl would be her new family, that little girl wasn't loved Prudence reasoned,

"I will rescue you" Prudence whispered into the wind as she followed them home. She made note of where they lived and what room the little went to through the window. Prudence walked around the block twice before leaving to tell her brothers, to tell them she found their new sister.
