among the euhyracoglirians, a certain species has developed a complex social system along with a fossorial lifestyle similar to today's prarie dogs. these animals are called fossoscoraxes, and they have high intelligence compared to most lithohyracoids. they are small, growing up to 10 pounds, and can live in groups of up to 20 or more. due to their general helplessness, their main defense is an extremely loud warning cry that can cause extreme pain to a predator's ears if multiple do it at once.

but, these prarie dog analouges wouldn't be safe for long, as a new predator is out to get them. a long, sleek, mustelid-like cynohyraxian called the hyragale. these predators are quite a bit more intelligent than the euhyracoglirians, and very stealthy to add. not only that, they are completely unphased by the deafening warning cries of the fossoscoraxes, due to lots of ear hair which makes them able to tolerate noises that most other predators of these creatures wouldn't be able to handle.
