Within the euhyrailurians, a certain clade has developed a pretty effective way of dealing with predators.

As their clade name (which means cat-like porcupines) implies, they have developed quills on their back and highly elongated ones on their short tail. Along with their sharp claws and thick skin, these animals are able to easily defend themselves from other hyracocarnivorans. They are extremely adaptable generalists, and their clade wont be going away any time soon.
