Ever since the mass extinction, hyrailurians decided to get more creative with their survival tactics. So, a new branch developed something no other hyrax on this planet has ever had before: retractable claws.
The reason hyrailurians didn't get retractable claws earlier is because there were still steps to get from the basal, paenungulate foot, to the more derived carnivoran-like foot.
Ever since this adaptation, hyrailuria can be split into two groupings. The paraphyletic (therefore invalid in cladograms) paleohyrailuria which includes creatures like the hyranthera, and the monophyletic (therefore a real clade) Euhyrailuria, which will include much more cat-like forms.
This is the basal form for all euhyralurians.
