i dried my eyes with my shirt. charlotte had left the theatre after telling me she needed to recuperate at home with a plate of macaroni. after i had bid farewell to her, i was left standing uncertainly amongst the thinning crowd. i was pretty sure i was supposed to meet the cast again but they didn't leave any instructions.

"hey! you're harper right?" i whipped my head around. a friendly looking guy was calling to me near the stage. i nodded.

"i'm vadim feichtner, and i'm the conductor here!" *internal screaming resumes* i smiled through my tears. "oh hello! loved the music it was so good! you guys really killed it."

vadim grinned. "we're the famous teeny tiny band of course! anyways stephanie asked me to show you around the orchestra pit while the rest of the cast gets ready and rests for a bit."

"hell yeah!"

"right this way then! you're now an official guest to the falsettos orchestra pit!" vadim led me to a door and opened it. i peeked inside and it was pretty dark but it looked kinda cosy to me. the lights were kinda dim and there were three other guys chatting.

"hey y'all let's welcome harper to the pit! harper, these are the three other members of our band." i waved to them while they chorused 'hellos' to me.

"this is david who handles the keyboard." a sweet looking guy with glasses nodded.

"rick who plays the reeds like the saxophone and clarinet." "howdy-do harper!"

"jay is a drummer and a percussionist!" he waved his drumsticks at me.

vadim walked over to his piano and sat down. "i'm the pianist slash conductor here."

"i can't believe the four of you carried the entire show, the music was so good!" "thank YOU for coming to the show." vadim checked his phone. "stephanie texted me and said they'll be ready for you in two minutes. now before you go, do you have any questions?"

i looked around and saw a long, slim wooden board. "what's that wood thing over that?" jay the percussionist chuckled. "that's a good question. that is the thing that makes the sound of marvin's slap when he hits trina."

wait what.

he picked up the board and opened it. "these hinges here let it open and close." he shut the two parts of the board together and a really convincing slapping sound reverberated around the room. "and there you have it!"

"woah i didn't know that. thanks so much for the tour, it was really nice meeting all of you." i asked them to sign my playbill and they happily did, and i walked out of the pit beaming with a playbill that was now worth probably twice it's signed value.
