UNFASHIONABLY GEEKY

I walked back into the same old school gates yet again. Only to endure another day of school with annoying people, annoying teachers and annoying homework. You know, even a tree can be annoying if it's in the school grounds.

As you can see my mood today is less than happy. Once Lance left last night I had a whole bunch of assignments and homework to complete which left me in a sour mood which didn't blow over while I was having only 4 hours sleep.

By the time I reached my locker I probably already had rolled my eyes at at least all the people in my line of sight.

I reached into my locker to get out the my English books for first period when I heard a voice behind me.

I turned around to see Natalie looking almost as tired as me. "Wow Nat, I hate to be rude but you look like a zombie who was just hit by a car."

"Thanks for such a nice compliment this early in the morning." She said sarcastically.

"You do realised that it's 8:45am right? You're normally bouncing around here at around 8:15... What's up?"

"Nothing really, just didn't sleep very well. And I am guessing I am not the only, you look worse than a zombie who was just hit by a car."

"I know" I groaned. I told her about my strange night of events and about how I had heaps of homework to do and then ended it by saying I only had 4 hours sleep.

"Sounds..... Excruciating? But I can't believe you kissed him."

"I know, but I only did it for a selfish reason, I didn't actually want to kiss him, but now I guess if I want to make Lance jealous."

"I am still proud, you made the first move even though it wasn't for the right reasons. Anyways I have to go get ready for class." With a wave she walked off to her locker.

I leaned my head against my locker sighing. I closed my eyes realising that I am actually so tired.

I felt warm lips peck mine which snapped me out of my standing up sleeping thing.

My eyes flew open to see Hansel in front of me smiling.

"Are you okay? You look well tired to say the least." I didn't try to defend myself as I have already been told twice today the same thing my mom and Natalie.

"Yeah I know, I didn't get much sleep last night."

I slammed my locker door behind me and picked up my bag swinging over my shoulder. I began to walk towards my class, Hansel in step with me.

"What class do you have first?" I asked

"English, you?"

"Me too. I think Lance has the same class as well."

"Yeah, he does."

Just as the bell rang we took our seats. Lance was sitting up at the back, Hansel in the middle behind me and I was up the front.

"Okay students, I trust you all have read the scene that I wanted you to read for Romeo and Juliet." I looked around the classroom to see some people nodding and others looking very guilty.

"For those of you who didn't read it, you will have to read it now." I quietly laughed in my seat when I heard the groans coming from my peers who hadn't read it.

I watched as everyone reached for Romeo and Juliet, flipping to the correct page.

I felt a little tap on my shoulder, I turned around to face Hansel. "Yes?"

"Have you read the book?" He asked staring at the book.

"Yeah I have. Unlike half the class." I laughed. "Have you?"

"Nope." He said popping the p. "Been busy thinking of.... Other things." He said flirtatiously.

"Kerina! Hansel! It's not talking time, it's my time." She said in a stern voice.

I quickly turned away slightly embarrased.

I sighed in relief when I realised it was finally lunch. Quickly I made my way over to Natalie and Jason.

"Hey Nat, Hey Jason." I smiled

"Hey Kerina." Natalie replied

"Hello Kerina." James said in his Australian accent.

"Wow, that accent never gets old does it?" I laughed. "Every time I hear it I remember how different we all sound."

"Tis very true." He said.

"Tis? Let me guess your class is working on Romeo and Juliet too?"

I noticed that Natalie and been suspiciously quiet in this whole conversation. I'm suprised she hasn't had an opinion about something like usual.

Now that I come to think of it she has been suspiciously quiet all week. I am definitely going to have to ask her.

"Yeah, you got that right. Personally I think Romeo and Juliet is all a bit too cliché." He told me.

"Well, if you told my teacher that she would probably cut your tongue off" I laughed, and he laughed with me. But still Natalie hasn't said anything.

"Hey James, do you mind if I still Natalie away for a moment?" I asked, hopefully he wouldn't mind

"No, not at all." He smiled

"Woah so polite." I quickly grabbed Natalie and pulled her into a nearby classroom.

"What was that?" She asked sounding slightly irritated.

I quickly scanned the classroom to make sure that we were alone. "You have been weird all week, what aren't you telling me?"

"What, no I'm not?" She retorted, I sighed in frustration and turned to the window in the door and saw Jade walk past, she will be able to back me up.

"One second, Nat." I rushed out of the classroom and came back in with Jade being forcefully pulled from behind.

"What!?" She sounded even more frustrated than Natalie was before.

"Back me up here, has Natalie been acting weird all week?"

"Yes, yes she has. I have been meaning to ask you about that." She and I both turned around in sync staring at Natalie waiting for an explanation.

Immediately she sighed in defeat "I -I just don't think you will treat me the same if you know." With that she bursted into tears and crumpled to the floor.

Jade and I reacted quickly and knelt down on the floor to comfort her. "Natalie nothing you can say or do will make us look at you differently, you have been there when times had been rough for us, now it's our turn for you." Jade nodded in agreement with my heartfelt statement.

"Okay, but you have to promise not to tell anyone, especially not James."
