THE PAIN WAS UNIMAGINABLE. Estella no longer felt like someone with four limbs and a beating heart, everything was lost to her. Instead she felt like a ball of fire. Her eyes were crammed closed so tight she felt that she would never see light again. Everything was closed in on her, her chest felt as though it had shattered into millions of tiny pieces, she couldn't tell where her arms and legs were anymore but she guessed they had been sprawled around her.

She didn't have enough energy to scream, it was taking everything in her to loosen the pain. Not that this was working very well. It had stolen her undivided attention. Her mind felt like mush as she closed her hands tight at her flesh. Horrible red scratches coated her skin where she'd attempted to claw her flesh off. However as the transformation furthered, the soft brittle flesh was starting to feel more like the brick wall behind her.

Estella dug her nails into her forearms, hoping to draw blood. As she did it, she was already aware that it wouldn't work. She had curled herself into the very back corner of the alley, watching as the sky changed above her from indigo to violet, chartreuse to lavender. All the while her head span with terrible thoughts.

She was on edge, so tense she wondered why her heart hadn't given up on her yet. Tears dried her skin until the red blush that the summer months had brought her was nothing more than a memory. Estella rocked back and forth, her mouth open in a scream yet no noise would come out.

Carlisle's face lingered before her own, his voice in her ears and she saw red flash before her eyes. How could he do this to her? How could he be the cause of so much pain? How could he leave her here, knowing what she was going through?

A cry died in the back of Estella's throat as she hit her head against the nearby wall. It didn't hurt, even if it had Estella would have been unable to feel it over the already excruciating burning rushing though her. The corners of her eyes were shadowed from it all yet she still managed to keep her eyes tuned on the sky.

She felt only fractionally better when the stars reappeared. A day had passed. This was torture at the highest extent. Estella wasn't sure that she would ever recover from this pain, that it would ever fade from her mind. It was impossible to believe that there had been a time when she hadn't felt like this, even though this had been merely a day ago.

The pain had contained her, it was all she could think, it was all she could feel. Estella started to worry that this might be her life now, that the pain would never end. She wanted to die, she prayed for it, longed for it. She regretted ever hoping for life again, this had not been what she had hoped for. She had believed she would have survived at any cost but that couldn't be true. This was not a cost she would have ever hoped to pay.

Time was slower than ever. A day could have been a month. As the time passed on, Estella began to grow more cold. This alongside the burning running through her created a terrible mixture of agony. Even when the sun rose and the stars faded behind the curtain, she felt herself shivering violently. She wanted to burn like her blood, light in a ball of fire and dissolve never to be seen again. Estella wanted to be reduced to a pile of ashes in the back of the alley.
