THE CULLENS DIDN'T STAY TOO long in Colorado after the beginning of 1996. With their decade spent, it was time to move on before questions could be asked about Carlisle's overly youthful appearance. Este would be sad to see Colorado go even if they could come back in a few more decades. The house had become a source of comfort to her and it was now one of the only homes she'd known.

However she understood that it didn't matter where she went, as long as the Cullens were with her. They'd decided on Alaska. Cold, not often too sunny. It seemed perfect for them. Este would've gone anywhere but she was excited to see the sights of Alaska. They'd have a decade there, maybe a bit less. It would be a new start, the first start as a family. Este was rather optimistic about this.

Packing wasn't as difficult as she believed it would be. With three cars and Emmett's huge jeep, they could fit a lot in. They'd have to get a ferry across to Alaska in order to travel with their things but none of the Cullens minded about the less than simple routes they'd have to take to get there. They'd been through a lot more pressing hardships after all.

The biggest problem, aside from Alice's incredibly large closet, was the grand piano that sat in the corner of the living room. They'd have to hire a removal company for that, Edward wouldn't leave it behind. The piano was his pride and joy. The Cullens home wouldn't be the same without it.

They moved on a Wednesday in January. Este was busy packing boxes into Emmett's jeep, as many as she could stack. The jeep had a lot of space in it and Emmett would be the only one in the car since Rosalie had her BMW to drive. All the cardboard boxes had labels on them, thanks to Alice and Este. Without them this would be the least organised move in a lifetime.

She'd just been sealing the box closed when she heard footsteps by the trees. Este tensed immediately, leaving the box and turning towards the shadows of the overgrowth. The Cullens had heard the noise too. A few were out hunting but Carlisle, Edward and Rosalie darted out the house in a heartbeat. Carlisle with his hand on Este's arm.

"Who's there?" Edward called.

Este saw him appear through the trees with his hands raised in surrender. She relaxed immediately although she couldn't say the same about her family. Laurent looked as he always did, maybe less put together. There was pain in his eyes, guilt sliding over his vision. It seemed to lessen slightly as he gazed at Este.

"You're not welcome here!" Edward yelled, "not after what you did!"

"I only wish to apologise... to Este" Laurent explained.
