NOVA WAS FURIOUS just as Estella had expected. However she wasn't furious at Este necessarily, just the fact that their plans were coming crumbling down around them and there was nothing she could do.

Since Este had been the one to deliver the news about the advancement, Nova's bitter anger was mainly directed her way but Estella's mind was too full of swarming thoughts to care what Nova was screaming about.

Watching the family from a distance, speaking to Alice. Both of these things had completely thrown her off, caught her off guard. Her anger was dwindling, it's as though she couldn't recall how it felt to be so furious.

Why did it have to be that way? Carlisle being surrounded by something so good. Before, Estella had been determined to rip his life to shreds and make him watch. Kill the people he loved, take away his reputation and anything he cared for. It seemed that was going to be more difficult than she'd realised. Why couldn't his family be as heartless as he was?

That was the other thing, Carlisle hadn't seemed so hurtful striding around his home with his family. Maybe he really had changed, did that make what she was doing wrong? Was she the villain in this narrative? Even after everything he took from her, even when he destroyed her life?

Consequences rolled around Este's mind, littering any clear thought she had. The images of Emmett with his arm around Rosalie, Edward playing piano, Alice pleading with her to leave them alone. Why did they have to be so nice, so normal? It was messing everything up.

Este wished that Nova had sent someone else to spy on the Cullens. If that had been the case she wouldn't be sitting here now without her sense of clarity, her anger a ghost in her lonely veins. She so desperately wanted the fire back, the will to fight. The glint in her red eyes which spoke of revenge rather than redemption.

Now everything was clouded. However Este knew that even without her part in the charade, Nova and the rest were going after the Cullens. She wouldn't stop until she succeeded or died trying. Nothing would stop her from impressing the Volturi, not Este, not Quinn, nothing.

Even if Este turned to them now and told them it wasn't right to tear apart a family so innocent to the truth of being a monster. They'd go on without her, find more people to throw at their side. It wouldn't be difficult, many vampires resented the Cullens for the way they lived. She had realised this in Alice's tone.

Este didn't want a part in destroying the Cullen's nor did she want to be the one to force Edward and Alice into the city of Volterra but she did want the hand in completing her revenge. The idea of someone else destroying Carlisle was motivation enough. No one else was as deserving as she was. If Carlisle was going to be killed whether she had a part in it or not, she would be the one to deliver the blow. It was only right.
