ESTE FOLLOWED ROSALIE out into the winters day. The sun was sheltered behind grey clouds now, the sky didn't seem so perfectly blue. Este expected the girl to walk directly into the woods but instead she took a right, diverting to a pathway that Este hadn't noticed before.

The two women didn't say anything for a little while. The trail into the forest was smaller than the other, winding and rocky. There was a sound of rushing water somewhere to their left, Este guessed it was probably a waterfall. Birds danced serenely above them, making nests and creating songs. Everything seemed quite natural yet Este still felt as though she were on edge.

"We never got a fair chance at a good introduction" Rosalie acknowledged her presence at last.

"No, I suppose that's my fault" Este frowned, thinking of how her coven had burst into the Cullens life, took away their sense of safety.

"No I don't blame you" Rosalie shook her head, "I think you had every right to want revenge on Carlisle"

Este was very taken aback by this, Rosalie seemed to pick up on her reactions.

"Don't get me wrong, I love Carlisle" Rosalie continued, "he is like a father to me, he looks out for us all, he's extremely generous and I've always felt safe here despite what we are, that's all because of him. I did resent him at first, I had no desire to be a vampire, all I wanted back then was to die and he'd taken that one will from me. I hated him for a good portion of a decade but... I understood him and soon enough I learnt to respect him. The rest came after that, Emmett helped. There was more good in the world because of love and there was no point being against the man who had only wanted to save me"

"Carlisle's intentions have always been good" Este said carefully, "I'm glad you came to see that although you had every right to be upset over what happened to you. I heard your story Rosalie and I'm sorry for what you faced, no one should have to experience something like that"

"Thank you" Rosalie whispered, memories swarmed over her eyes in pits of darkness as she stared into the trees. They kept walking quietly for a while.

"You say you know my story?" Rosalie asked, "did you hear the chapter about my revenge?"

"I did" Este nodded curiously, "it's impressive, how you handled things"

"Revenge was a good choice for me" Rosalie smiled lightly, "I was a bit more theatrical back then but... I don't regret what I did. The world was better without those men in it but I never forget the men who wronged me"
