Who's My Mum?

Standing there looking back and forth between the two men standing in front of me, I started to get the feeling that I wasn't going to get any answers.

That was until Dora said something to them, making them both look like chastised children, her amusement had turned to irritation.

"Are you two serious?!?!? She's 19 and still has no idea who her Mum is? Grow up and be adults about it! Tell the poor girl who her Mum is!" Dora yelled

Both men looked at the floor, while Sirius looked like he wanted to avoid the conversation yet again, my dad looked like he felt guilty for never having this conversation in the past.

Neither of them said anything, they seemed to be hoping the other one would be the first to say something.

"Are you kidding me?!?!? For the love of Merlin! Y/N, come with me." Dora stated, taking my hand and guiding me out of the room, down the stairs, and into the formal dining room on the first floor, closing the door behind us.

"What do you want to know?" She asked, sitting down in one of the numerous chairs before motioning for me to sit next to her

"Ummmm, well her name would be a good place to start." I answered, sitting down next to her

"They haven't even bothered to tell you her name?"

"I think they just don't know how to bring it up, all I know is that she wasn't ready to be a mum, being 16, I can't really say I blame her."

"She might not have been ready to be a mum but she was still in your life, even if you didn't know that she was your mum."

I couldn't help but get excited at this!

If my mum had been in my life this entire time, she could've been anyone, maybe I had a decent relationship with her and she was just afraid I'd be mad at her for not playing a motherly role in my life?

When Dora saw how excited I was getting she gave me a sad smile, taking my hand in hers, the action in and of itself told me that it wasn't going to be what I was hoping for.

"Stay here" she whispered, standing up and heading out the door and back up the stairs

What on earth could she be doing? Was she getting something? Was she uncomfortable with this conversation? Did she want Sirius to tell me instead?

She came back a few moments later with an envelope.

"Here, I think this will explain everything you need to know, if you have any questions about anything that isn't in the letter I'll be more than happy to answer them. I'll be in the sitting room if you need anything." Dora stated, handing me the envelope

I nodded, hesitantly taking the envelope from her and watching as she left the room once again, closing the door behind her.

Looking down at the small envelope now in my hands, I finally realized it had my name on it.

Cautiously opening the envelope, I was met by a letter:

Y/N,

I've asked your dad to give you this letter when you turn 16.

I really hope you don't hate me for not playing a maternal role in your life, I wasn't ready to be a mother, I wanted to give you a shot at having a decent life.

Whether you grow up knowing me as 'Daddy's friend' or an Aunt, or whatever title Sirius comes up with to make it easier for him, know that I love you more than you can imagine.

I suppose I should tell you a little bit about myself, just in case you grow up not knowing me, things change, people move away, things happen that are sometimes out of our control.
