The Second Task

The second task took place on February 24, 1995 and while the last task had been dangerous, this one was just as dangerous as the first, if not more so.

Each champion had to go into the depths of the black lake and retrieve something that had been taken from them.

What was this thing that was taken? It was someone the champion cared about.

Fleur's was her little sister, Gabrielle, Victor's was his date from the Yule Ball, Hermione, Cedric's was also his date from the Yule Ball, his girlfriend Cho Chang, and Harry's was his best friend, Ron.

Ron also happens to be Percy's little brother.

While Percy himself had no knowledge of what the second task entailed, I'd personally helped arrange this task with the merpeople in the lake.

When the day finally came Barty had written yet another letter saying he was still ill and wouldn't be able to attend, thus he needed his assistant 'Weatherby' to fill in for him yet again as judge.

I arrived at the temporary stands that had been made in the middle of the Black Lake, quickly being approached by a VERY frantic Percy.

"Y/N, we can't find Ron. He just made up with Harry after some sort of huge fight according to the twins, he wouldn't miss this. Something's wrong." Percy said, he sounded like he was out of breath and he looked like he'd been running around trying to find his brother

"Love, I know you're worried and I understand why, but I promise you, your brother's just fine." I replied, trying to reassure him

"You know where he is? What's going on?"

"I do, but you know I can't answer that last question."

"Y/N HE'S MY BROTHER! WHERE THE HELL IS HE?"

"Percy please, I'd tell you if he was in danger, he's fine. I promise, Mi Amor, he's safe."

"Don't 'my love' me, tell me where the hell my brother is!"

I wasn't going to stand there and get yelled over something we both knew I had absolutely no control over, it wasn't professional and he was starting to cause a scene and draw attention.

Leaning up, I kissed him on the cheek, whispering in his ear before walking to the other side of the dock.

"I love you Percy but I'm not arguing with you about this anymore, you're causing a scene and people are starting to stare." With that I walked away, feeling his eyes bore into me like daggers.

I absolutely hated not being able to tell him where Ron was, he was worried sick about his younger brother and I wanted nothing more than to calm his nerves but I couldn't, I had a job to do.

On top of having to do my job, I didn't know how well that conversation would go over.

How exactly does one tell their boyfriend that his 14 year old brother is currently at the bottom of the Black Lake?!?!?

I fully expected some sort of fight later, but for the time being I had to focus on the task at hand.

Each champion had an hour to find what had been taken from them, when Fleur came up well before the allotted time without her sister it meant she'd come in last.

The next person who came up was Cedric, followed by Viktor, with no Harry insight.

Just before the 1 hour mark Fleur's sister Gabrielle as well as Ron both came up, indicating that Harry had saved both of them. Harry himself however didn't come up until right after the clock rang.

While Hermione was busy doting on Harry, I wasn't very far away, smiling and nodding once when he looked up at me.

Harry had said earlier that year that having me around during the tournament brought him a sort of comfort, that it was like having a little piece of Sirius around all the time.
