The next day, when we arrived to The Burrow, Percy was incredibly excited to tell his family about his promotion.
We decided to go after work, as he didn't want to wait until the weekend to tell them, so I was still in my work clothes when we got there.
The first thing Molly did when we walked through the door was hug both of us, insisting we stay for dinner.
When Percy told her we were here to tell them about something involving work she insisted he could tell everyone over or after dinner as it would be easier that way, which we agreed to.
Given the time, we didn't have to wait very long.
Dinner was delicious, but it was Molly who'd cooked it I wasn't exactly surprised, she's an amazing cook.
When dinner was over, Percy decided it was time to tell his parents about the promotion, his siblings had already dispersed themselves throughout the house.
"I got a promotion at work yesterday, Fudge asked me if I wanted to be his Junior Assistant." Percy stated
Molly looked proud momentarily, at least until Arthur said something in response to the news of the promotion.
"Don't you think it's a little suspicious that he offered you this promotion so soon after disciplinary action? Are you sure he didn't offer you this promotion to keep track of the family? Not to mention Harry and Dumbledore?" Arthur asked
While I hadn't said anything about it verbally, as I was happy for Percy, Arthur had said exactly what I'd been thinking for the past 24 hours.
"Really?" Percy sounded heartbroken which broke my heart
"It's just an observation Perce, Fudge has become increasingly paranoid about Dumbledore ever since the Dark Lord's return."
"And you're just all too willing to believe Harry? What evidence does he have?"
"Why would he need physical evidence? He was there, I trust he wouldn't lie about something so serious."
"Who's to say he didn't make the entire thing up to get attention?" This question seemed a little drastic, Harry doesn't need to lie to get attention, but I knew Percy was just angry and hurt.
"I'm just saying I think Fudge has ulterior motives, that's all."
"How could he possibly have offered me a promotion to spy on you, Harry, and Dumbledore?"
"You're my son! Why wouldn't he use you to spy on me?"
"MAYBE BECAUSE HE DOESN'T KNOW I'M YOUR SON!"
Everything in the house went quiet, even his siblings upstairs stopped talking and laughing, looking down over the banisters of the staircase to look at Percy.
Molly's hand flew over her mouth, looking back and forth between her husband and son in shock, waiting for someone to say something.
I'd also covered my mouth with my hand, staring at Percy in disbelief and shock.
