{Theo}

I pace back and forth in front of my ma's couch anxiously, watching as my phone rings.

Hopefully she picks up on time.

This was a very complicated plan and it didn't even have to be.

"Hello?"

10:15pm.

Perfect.

"Hi, Ayah. How was work?"
I ask, taking a deep breath.

"Terrible. I'm almost home to my bed though so I should be good. What's up, did you need something?"

She has a cute little yawn.

I bite my lip.

"Oh, cool. So uh, how far out would you say you were from your apartment?"
I ask casually.

"Um, that's kind of a weird question but I just parked."
She says slowly.

"Why?"

"No reason, I'm just curious."
I try not to sound weird when I say this.

"Uh huh."
She seem convinced.

"You sure nothing interesting happened at work today?"
I try to stall.

"No. I'm not 18 so the drama that happens at work doesn't really interest me."
She grumbles.

"Right."
I agree absentmindedly.

I hear the elevator ding in the background.

I smile.

"Are you walking to your door?"
I breathe, tapping my foot anxiously.

Of course now time chooses to go by slow.

"Yes. You're being weird."
She sounds amused.

"Me? Pfft, no way."

Silence.

"Oh, I see."
She says softly.

I hold my breath.

Hopefully she's looking at the carnations and not something terrible.

I told the man at the front desk to leave them on her doormat at 10:15 on the dot.

"What do you think?"
I whisper.

"Theo, they're beautiful."
She says quietly.

"You have to read the note too."
I clear my throat.

I listen closely as she mutters the words.

"Theo, I...I don't know what to say. Oh my gosh, I could cry."
She whispers.

"Do you get the hype now?"
I can't help but smile.

"I do. I definitely do. I'm going to go put these in a vase right now."

Never gotten flowers.
Pfft.

My old man didn't teach me a lot of things but one thing he did teach me was to always treat a lady right.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be there in person to give them to you, something came up."
I say quietly.

I try not to scowl at just the thought.

I've come to realize that I wouldn't mind spending every second I have available with her. I'd actually enjoy the time.
