Am I Enough?

"Elijah!" A maid called his name. He looked towards where the voice was coming from.
"Yes" he asked, annoyance present in his voice, Meg standing in confusion.
"Your father requests you in his office immediately!" She calls. Elijah groaned, gently letting go of Meg's hands.
"Looks like your father needs you." she laughed. "You go talk with your father. We'll talk later, go take care of your business."
She kissed his cheek and walked out of the room without another word. Elijah groaned at the horrible timing. He shook off the annoyance, and walked out of his room into his fathers office.
. . .
Elijah took a deep breath before knocking on his door. He waited for his father to give him permission to enter and as soon as he did, he walked in.
"Father. You wished to see me?" Elijah asked.
"Yes. Please, take a seat." the king said, motioning to a chair that sat in front of his desk. His son glady pulled out the chair and sat in it, sinking into the velvet padding of the seat.
"So, I just wanted to let you know that we will be having a visitor staying in the palace.".he stated.
"Really? That's good to hear. Who's visiting.". Elijah questioned, leaning in to hear his father better.
"We will have princess Lucinda of Crewnia staying in the palace for about a week. She is about your age so please. When you see her, make sure she feels at home in the palace. Okay?" His father laid his hands on his desk.
"Of course father. I will do my best.". Elijah clarified.
"Good. You are dismissed.". The king said, Elijah standing up, and walking to the door. As soon as he exited the queen walked in, clearly confused about the situation.
"You never told me about a princess staying at the palace. When did you agree to this and why is this happening?" the queen asked, crossing her arms while raising an eyebrow.
"Oh! Princess Lucinda? Yes. Her. Her family sent her over to tour different kingdoms since she hasn't been out much." the king spat out. The queen gave him a look of suspicion.
"...If you say so... You better not be doing anything to Elijah and Meg's relationship. I know you don't like her and you want her out when it comes to dating Elijah, but this isn't your decision. I just want to clarify that, okay?" the queen said, the king nodded.
"I'm not doing anything, I swear I wouldn't do that.". The king fiddled his fingers out of nerves..
"Hmm. If you say so." the queen said, walking out of the room.
The king sat at his desk, patiently waiting for a certain someone to knock on his door. As soon as he heard a faint knock at his door, he immediately gave them permission to enter.
The person entered, and immediately curtseyed at the appearance of the king.
"Good morning, your highness.". She smiled and waved
"Good morning Princess Lucinda.". The king waved back. She sighed and smiled.
"Are you sure you want to go through with the deal?'.
. . .
Elijah walked down the maze labeled as hallways, looking for Meg so he can talk to her again. Not watching where he was going he bumped into someone, knocking them down. The thud he heard on the floor snapped him out of his thoughts.
When he looked down at the person, it was a young woman, who looked to be about his age. She had pale skin and freckles, long, wavy, sunset hair and beautiful blue eyes. Her skin was like porcelain. Not a scar or bump in sight She had beautiful, long hanging earrings and amethyst necklace that laid on the bodice of her silk, midnight blue dress. The long, sheer sleeves that cuffed at her wrists covered the freckles that decorated her shoulders. The bow around her waist accentuated it. The large amethyst ring on her right ring finger complimented the gold bracelets that clanked on her wrists. She had a slender, pointy nose and long, beautiful eyelashes. Her teeth were as white as fresh fallen snow. Her round, mesmerizing eyes looked up at Elijah as she winced at the fall.
"Oh! I'm so sorry, miss." Elijah said, bending down for the woman to take his hand. She gently put her hand in his and allowed him to help her up.
"Thank you my prince." she said, curtsying.
"You're welcome miss... Wait, are you the princess who will be staying in the castle?" Elijah asked.
"Princess Lucinda? Yes, that's me!" she claimed. She smiled, making eye contact with him.
"My apologies, princess." he started walking away when she stopped him.
"Wait! Since you are right here, could you please give me a tour? I'm still not sure where everything is in the palace?". Elijah thought for a second and then remembered that his father wanted him to make her feel at home in the palace.
"Of course princess. Follow me." he walked forward, the princess walking next to him.
As they walked down the hallway, he pointed out each room on each side of the hallway, making small talk about where she is from and she would make small talk about the prince's life and tried to get to know him better but all that stopped as soon as he saw Meg walking in the hallway.
"Meg!" he ran over to her, the princess following. He bent down and kissed her cheek, meg just giggling.
"Hello again idiot." she said, Lucinda shooting her a dirty look.
Meg looked past Elijah to see the figure standing behind him.
"Elijah, Who is this?" Meg asked, grabbing hold of his hand.
"Oh! Of course. Meg, this is princess Lucinda. She is going to be staying in the palace for around a week. Lucinda, this is my girlfriend, Meg.". He introduced them.
"So nice to meet you!" Meg held out her hand for Lucinda to shake, Lucinda looked her up and down before hesitantly shaking her hand.
"Nice to meet you as well." Lucinda shook her hand back, taking in what she looked.
"So, what are you guys doing?" Meg let go of her hand and gave Lucinda a welcoming look.
"Oh, I'm just giving her a tour of the palace. If you would like to accompany us, that would be great.". Elijah looked at Meg.
"I would love to join, and I'd love to get to know you better Lucinda!"Meg responded. "Go on, and lead the way.".
Elijah and Meg motioned for Lucinda to follow them. Meg and Elijah, hand in hand pointed out which room was which and what was in it. As they walked and talked, Meg made an effort to get to know Lucinda, but Lucinda never seemed interested in Meg but overly interested in the prince.
As Meg and Elijah talked, Lucinda studied exactly what they were saying to each other and how they acted towards each other. She took in their tones and body language.
After the tour was completed, Lucinda returned to her room. As soon as she made her way to her room, she immediately took a book out of a drawer in the desk she had been provided with. She dipped a quill in ink that laid on her desk and quickly wrote down all the information that she remembered getting from their trip. Everything she learned about Elijah and everything she learned about Meg. After she finished writing everything down, she hid the book and prepared to go to sleep.
. . .
The next day Meg woke up and got dressed in a ruby red dress. She wasn't really a fan of dresses but she knew that if she was going to be with Elijah, she had to always dress nicely around the palace. She considered it to be a small price to pay to be living with Elijah as something more than a guard. It would be a lie if she said that didn't miss it though but she does go and train with Alexander just for fun now. Once her hair was straightened up, she put on her matching heels and walked out of her room. As soon as she walked out she immediately saw none other than princess Lucinda. Excited at the sight of the new found inhabitant of the castle, she immediately ran over to talk to her.
"Lucinda! Hey!" Meg said, running over to Lucinda, getting her attention.
"Oh. Good morning Meg. How are you?" Lucinda stopped so Meg could catch up to her.
"I'm doing good! I just woke up from a good night's sleep." She yawned, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Lucinda nodded and started to walk away. Confused, Meg ran after her tripping over her dress.
"Hey! Wait!" Meg called out, Lucinda groaning, putting on a fake smile and turning around to face her again.
"Yes?" Lucinda asked, hands folded in front of her.
"So you are from Crewnia right?" Meg, motioned to her golden necklace with a charm that had the Crewnia symbol engraved on it.
"I am! How did you know?" Lucinda was confused that she even knew what Crewnia was due to her peasant background.
"I took it upon myself to learn about the neighboring kingdoms, and it's always nice to meet someone from outside Pierella. In this scenario, that would include yourself.". Meg explained.
"I see.". Lucinda started to walk away once again. Meg, confused, tried to keep up.
"So, how are you enjoying the palace?" She asked, Lucinda grounded and turned around and faked a smile.
"It's wonderful! I'm so happy I will be spending my time here.". Her fake excitement bought Meg joy. She continued to walk down the red, cotton carpet that lined the hallways.
"So. Lucinda-" Meg got cut off when Lucinda stopped in the middle of the hallway and pulled her aside into a corner by a nearby staircase so no one could hear them talk. She decided that since Meg was here, that this was the perfect time to make Meg hate her.
Meg was cornered beneath Lucinda, caged into the wall.
"Umm. Lucinda? What's going on?" Meg looked up at the princess who was towering over her. She kept her pride and kept eye contact with Lucinda, waiting for a response. Lucinda grinned and looked down at her, observing her face.
"Where did these come from?" Lucinda pointed at some scars on her face and shoulders, her finger lightly grazing one on her cheek. Meg, flustered by the encounter coward under Lucinda's touch.
"It's a long story..." Meg admitted, standing up straight again, doing her best to look strong.
"Well, I'd love to hear it! How those atrocious scars managed to crawl onto your dotted face." Lucinda moved closer, towering over Meg even more. Meg's eyes went from being nervous to being filled with rage. A frown appeared on her face as her eyebrows furrowed.
"Wouldn't you like to know, princess." Meg snapped back. Lucinda laughed at the remark.
"You must be a fragile little thing" Lucinda motioned to the stairs behind them. "How many times did you fall down those stairs to do that?". Meg growled, trying to keep her cool.
"I think I should go." Meg tried to push her way past the princess but the princess blocked her path, continuing to keep her trapped in the corner she was in. Meg knew that she couldn't put her hands on royalty. Especially a royal from outside the kingdom.
"Lucinda. Let me go."
"Not until you tell me what went on.", the smirk on her face growing, her eyebrows furrowing.
"I don't have to tell you anything Lucinda. It's not your business.". Meg, getting more frustrated, was trying her best to keep from yelling at the princess.
"Oh come on now Meg. Tell me". Lucinda continued to press for details, Meg getting more and more angry.
"It's not your business or your problem!" Meg's voice started to get louder, right on the verge of a yell. Lucinda put on a fake shocked expression.
"You're yelling at me? Why would you yell at me? I thought you could take a joke." Lucinda bent down so her eyes would meet directly with Meg's.
"You're the joke." Meg mumbled under her breath. Lucinda celebrated in her mind, knowing that she was manipulating her to get what she wanted and it was working. Lucinda gasped.
"Now you're yelling at me? I thought we were going to be friends! You are so impolite. Who raised you as a child? They did an awful job taking care of their child by the looks of how she turned out when she became an adult. Your mother must be the joke.". Lucinda pinned Meg to the wall. Each hand on one side of her. Meg's vision started turning into a dark crimson color, no mercy for the royal in front of her.
"Don't you dare insult my mother..." Meg mumbled under her breath, looking down at the carpet, refusing to look at Lucinda, afraid that she would go off.
"Where is your mother? I would love to chat with her about how horrible her child turned out to be. You have such a bad temper, you know that, ScarFace? I honestly don't know what Elijah sees in you. I mean seriously. He could've done so much better. Like me.". Lucinda lifted Meg's face up. When she looked at Lucinda, she finally broke out into a rage.
"Don't you EVER say that to me again!" Meg tried to push her aside, but in the process Lucinda intentionally fell and yelled, getting all the maids' attention, claiming that Meg pushed her for an unknown reason and that all she was trying to do was introduce herself. Of course Meg immediately declined the false accusations but everyone was more focused on the palace visitor. As Lucinda faked a wince when she was helped up, she looked back at Meg and gave her a smirk before turning back to the maids who were taking her away from the scene to take care of her "Sprained ankle.". The other maids looked at Meg with a look of disgust and worry based on her actions that they had never seen come from her. One of them decided to come up to her and speak up.
"Madam Meg! What did you do? Why'd you push the princess?" The maid asked, her voice somewhat stringent.
"I didn't mean to push her! She was insulting me and I tried to push past her but she intentionally threw herself to the ground!" Meg claimed, desperately trying to get the maid to believe her. The maid sighed and shook her head.
"From what we all saw, it looks like you pushed her out of anger.". The maid informed Meg looked disappointed and shocked. "What?! You don't believe me?" Meg asked, throwing her hands in the air.
"Either way, this matter will be taken to the king for injuring a guest.".Meg gulped, knowing that the king wasn't too fond of her and he would most definitely take Lucinda's side..
"I need to go.", Meg ran off, leaving the maid stunned at her sudden disappearance. She ran to her room and barged in, the door slamming when they closed behind her. She quickly sat down in her chair, almost falling out of it in the process. She pulled out a blank piece of paper from her top drawer and slammed it on her desk. She grabbed a quill next to the ink on her desk and quickly dunked it in the bottle of midnight black ink, splattering it everywear, almost getting it on her dress and started writing her case on what happened. As soon as she was a couple sentences in, she heard a faint knock on the door.
"Not right now! I'm busy!" she yelled, not looking away from the paper.
"It's me, Elijah. Meg, can I come in?" he asked quietly, hearing the stress in her voice.
"Elijah? Yes, you can come in!" She yelled loud enough for him to hear her. She heard her door opening, but she didn't spare it a glance. When Elijah walked in, he was immediately starstruck when he saw his significant other writing at the speed of light.
"Hey Meg? Do you think you can take a break?" He asked.
"Hold on, let me finish this sentence." she said, scrambling. Once she finished her sentence, she slammed the quill on the paper, leaving a splatter on the paper. She cursed to herself before turning around in her seat and acted like nothing happened.
"Good morning Elijah! How are you on this beautiful sunny day?" she asked, poorly hiding that something happened.
"Yeah..." he paused, and sat down on her bed and looked at her. She looked down, knowing what he was going to say.
"Meg. Lucinda just came up to me and said that you intentionally pushed her for no reason at all. She said that you got angry at her for no reason. Is this true?" He asked. " Don't worry. I'm not mad, but I just need to know since my father put me in charge of taking care of this matter.".
"I didn't! I didn't mean to push her! I got angry, but I didn't mean to push her. She had me pinned to a wall and when I tried to push past her to come to my room to calm down, she intentionally threw herself to the ground in front of the maids, framing me! You know I wouldn't hurt someone on purpose anymore!" Meg pleaded, hoping Elijah would believe her. She placed her hands in her lap and fiddled with the cloth of her skirt.
"What did you get angry about?". He asked, getting up and kneeling in front of her, placing his hand on hers to calm the anxiety.
"It was just a majority of very bad insults. You know... Just about my scars and my mother... and you... not loving me. You know. The usual.". Elijah slightly tightened the grip on her hand and gave her a comforting smile.
"Meg. Don't listen to her. What she said isn't true, and you know it." Elijah cupped her face, she leaned into the touch of his soft hands.
"I know..." she answered.
"Just stay away from her for now. She's not worth your time if she is going to say such nasty things." She hummed in response, agreeing to do what he said. He rubbed his finger over one of her scars before looking her in the eyes.
"And by the way, I think your scars are beautiful.". He got up and kissed her on the forehead.
"I'm going to go right now, but I will see you soon!". As soon as he tried to walk out, Meg grabbed his hand which made him look her way.
"Elijah?" she asked.
"Yes dear?" he retaliated.
"I know you are the prince, and you have to be around the castle and be nice and all but could you please try and stay away from her? For me?" she asked, shooting him puppy eyes. He sighed and smiled.
"I'll do my best." . She gently let go of his hand, watching him walk out of her room. She sighed and took the piece of paper that she was writing on and threw it in the trash can that sat to the right of her desk. She got up and sat on her windowsill. She sighed in relief as she looked out the window to the woods. She looked back in her room and then out into the woods again, reminiscing about her past life and what Lucinda said. The more Meg thought about it, the more she missed it. Eventually she decided that it was about time for her to go into her closet and put on her old armor.
. . .
Elijah walked down the hallway. He sighed as he observed the stone walls and paintings that lined the walls of the hallways. He looked at the rays of sunlight that shone through the rectangular window, specks of dust now visible from the rays. He stopped by the throne room and walked inside, stopping to look at his parent's portrait.
His father was sitting on a chair and his mother was sitting behind him, her small hand sitting on his shoulder. The beautiful crown and tiara that laid on their heads were decorated with carefully placed gems that could blind someone if the light reflected off them at the exact right point. Their outfits matched. Both a maroon and gold mixture to match the kingdom's colors. They were looking forward but you could tell that they enjoyed each other's presence.
It just looked so easy for them...
"That's all he could want. Just for it to be easy. I know you are a good person but I don't know why love has to always be so hard." He was snapped out of his thoughts when he felt a light tap on his left shoulder. He turned around to see princess Lucinda getting his attention.
"Good morning Elijah!" she claimed, laying her hand on his shoulder. He noticed it and pulled her hand off of his shoulder and placed it to her side. She looked annoyed at his gesture.
"Good morning Lucinda.". He responded, looking back at his parents' portrait, trying to ignore Lucinda.
"So. What are you doing?" she asked, walking up next to him. She put on her most innocent voice to try to get Elijah to look down at her but he didn't fall for it.
"I'm just looking at my parent's portraits," he said. She crossed in front of him and gently grabbed his face to turn it down and look at her.
"I agree with Elijah. It is a beautiful portrait of the king and queen." she gasped. "We should get our own portrait! We could hang it up!" she claimed, hope in her eyes. Elijah pulled her hands off of his face and brushed off his clothes from the contact of her dress on his.
"I'd rather not, princess. I'm not in the mood." He tried to walk away but when she grabbed his hand, he turned to look down at her, surprised by the sudden gesture he tried to rip his hand away but she wouldn't budge.
"Then let's go take a walk in the garden! Just you and me, I want to get to know you better Elijah. Please?" she pleaded. He groaned and thought about what Meg said. He sighed.
"If I go to the garden with you, will you leave me alone?" he asked. Her eyes lit up.
"I will! I just want to get to know you better!". She claimed.
Elijah swore to himself before looking down at her.
"Fine. Follow me.". He said, walking away, Lucinda quickly followed behind him, doing her best to keep up.
. . .
Meg walked out of the castle in her old armor. It felt good to have it back on. As much as she had bad experiences in that armor, she also learned more about herself while she was in it. She walked down the dirt path, occasionally kicking a small pebble that laid on it ever so often. She constantly took deep breaths, taking in the fresh air. She relished the soft breeze that grazed her cheeks, stray strands of hair following it. The woolen hose under her armor kept her warm and from the dented metal from rubbing. She listened to the metal of her old armor clank as she walked down the path. Little patches of grass that lined the path made her feel at home. Soon enough she finally made her way to the training grounds.
Meg giggled and ran in. She hadn't been there in a couple months so she was excited to get to work. She ran past all the tents and horse stables to make her way to the shed that was filled with weapons such as swords, daggers, bows and arrows, jousting sticks, and whips. Anything you could think of would be in that shed. She ran in and immediately grabbed a wooden sword. She found a dummy and started training with it. The dummy was hanging from a string, so it swung whenever it was hit. Whenever she hit it and switched sides so she could hit it on each side. After the final swing, she threw the sword to the side and panted. She laughed as she put it back into the shed. Looking around, she found a new addition to the training grounds.
She found a Wing Chun Wooden Dummy.
She came up to it and tilted her head in confusion. She pushed one of the wooden poles that stuck out of it and she watched it move. She hit another one and watched it spin as well. She stroked her chin, trying to figure out how to use the old equipment. Her head perked up when she heard a familiar voice.
"Need a little help?".
She turned around to see Alexander, she ran and gave him a hug, almost knocking him down.
"Woah! Settle down their maverick!" he laughed as he returned the hug. He pulled away and looked at Meg.
"I haven't seen you in months! I'm assuming you got busy?" he asked.
"Yeah, I have been. It's okay though. It's so nice to see you again!" . She stepped back, Alexander looking at her face..
"Looks like your scars faded nicely," he pointed out. She felt her face and just laughed.
"They really have." she agreed. "But if I'm being honest, I kind of like some of the scars. They looked pretty cool and they showed character. I mean, they still do but I wish the one over my nose bridge was more prominent. I thought that scar was cool.".
"Don't worry. It's still visible." he laughed, she just shoved him. She then looked at the Wing Chun wooden dummy and then back at Alexander.
"So. How exactly do you use one of these?". She asked, nudging one of the wooden poles again. He pushed her aside and walked up to the Wing Chun.
"So, as you've seen, the wooden poles swing across the Wing Chun." he hit one, Meg watching it move around the Wing Chun. "So basically, you hit the wooden poles and they spin, and once they return to you you hit them again.". He pushed Meg back further so he could demonstrate.
He hit the wooden poles and Meg watched as they spun. She watched as he hit and kicked them when they returned to him. He stopped the poles and looked back at Meg.
"That's basically what it is." he stepped out of the way so she could walk towards it. "Would you like to give it a try?".
She walked up to it and hit one of them again. She then hit it hard, and then hit it again when it returned to her. She giggled as she continued to hit it. Soon enough she thought it would be a good idea to kick the top pole which caused her ankle to get stuck. She flung off the ground causing her to fall flat on her back. Her and Alexander just laughed.
"I don't think you're ready for that yet." he said in between laughs as he walked in front of Meg to help her up. She grabbed his hand and let him pull her up off the dusty dirt ground.
"It was worth a shot." she brushed the grains of dirt off of her armor and the remaining off of her face.
"I think it would just be better if we dueled. For old time sake.". She suggested. Alexander nodded in agreement and made his way over to the shed. He grabbed two wooden swords and tossed one to Meg. As soon as they gathered all their equipment they made their way to their old training spot. They both took their stances and Meg waited for the word.
"Ready..." Alexander said, Meg nodding.
"Ready as I'll ever be." an egotistical grin forming on her face. He smiled back before calling it.".
"Ready..." he paused. "SPARR". Both him and Meg lunged at each other. Meg would swing and Alexander would dodge, Alexander would swing and Meg would dodge. Meg laughed as she swung her sword. Alexander could tell that she missed this.
Eventually she got backed into a wall, but before Alexander could hold the wooden sword up to her throat and call it, she ducked under, knocking him to the ground. Still fazed by the sudden fall, he watched as she put her foot on his chest and held her sword up to her throat.
"Dead".
She laughed as she stepped off of Alexander, reaching her hand up for him to grab onto. He allowed her to pull him up. As soon as he was up she started gloating.
"Looks like I still got it!" she bragged. Alexander just shook his head and pushed her to the ground.
"What the- hey!" Is what she said when she was pushed. She started laughing as she looked up at Alexander. "What was that for?" she said between laughs.
"Just keep dreaming Meg. Keep dreaming." he looked down at her with a playful but evil smirk. He walked away, but Meg ran after him and tackled him.
"I don't need to keep dreaming when I know it's true.". She got up and grabbed hers and Alexander's swords and put them back into the shed. He walked up to her and gently hit the upside of her head.
"Hey, can I borrow your horse? I wanna go for a little ride in the woods and garden." she asked since she hadn't gotten a new horse.
"Go for it!" He agreed, heading to the horse stable to retrieve his horse. Once he brought it back and set it up for her, he watched as she got on the horse. As soon as she was about to ride off he remembered something and called her back.
"Wait! Meg! I have something to give you!" he called and she turned around and rode back.
"What do you need?" she tilted her head slightly.
"Wait here!" Meg watched him run off into his tent. He soon ran back with a small, wooden box. He handed it to her. When she opened it her mood immediately changed.
"We found this at the camp once you left.".
When she took a look inside the tiny chest, she saw her lucky dagger in pieces. She gently lifted the pieces up in her hand and let them fall back into the little box and closed it, latching it shut. She looked down at Alexander with a small grin and let out a quiet "Thank you" before riding off.
Meg rode into the woods, feeling secure now that there were no assassins anymore, and if there were, there would only be about one or two so she was no longer worried. She found a willow tree and a log by a river. She got off Alexander's horse and sat on the damp log. She took out the tiny box and opened it. She took off her gauntlet and set it next to her. She then unlatched it and rummaged her hand in the box, feeling all the broken metal and wooden splinters. She tried her best not to get cut when she found the jewel that once sat on the bottom of its pommel and picked it up. She admired it in her rough hands, taking in how it sparkled when the dull sunlight shined off of it. She put it back in the box and then dumped the pieces on the dry dirt in front of her. She spread the piece of the blade apart, trying her best to arrange them in a way that put the blade back together. She then tried assembling the black vines to various pieces of wood when they kept falling. Looking in the box, there was still one piece left that didn't make its way out of the box with all the other shards of metal and wood. She took it in her hand and it was labeled "AK". Meg sighed, knowing that there was no possible way of fixing it, but at least she had it, or more so the remains of it.
Meg boarded the horse and made her way out of the woods. She decided that she should finally take her trip to the garden to just settle and relax. To breathe in the heavenly scent of the mixture of flowers and watch the bumble bees fly by.
. . .
Elijah was walking with Lucinda in the garden. Lucinda was constantly trying to talk to him or subtly flirting with him. He brushed it off. With every comment or question she asked, he only gave a one word response, trying his best to make this girl uninterested in him without being mean, because he knows if he is mean to the princess he will get in big trouble with his father.
"So, are you excited to be king?" Lucinda asked, still attempting to get Elijah's attention. She was constantly trying to keep up with him since he had longer legs than her.
"Yes." is all he said. No emotion in his voice but she wasn't going to give up.
"So, do you have a queen in mind?" she tried scooting closer to him, him backing off in response.
"Yes."
"Is it that Meg girl?" Lucinda's voice got intentionally more quiet and desperate.
"Yes, it is.". He said, continuing to walk away when she ran in front of him, stopping him in his tracks.
"Elijah. You can do so much better than whatever that is. She was a peasant! Choose someone with a better background and a rich family. Someone who would be good for your kingdom. Someone who will love you for you, not your money!" she claimed, standing on her tiptoes, trying to make herself look more captivating. He pushed her down, obviously upset at her comments.
"Listen. You know I'm right!" Lucinda crossed her arms, attempting to make her point valid.
"Listen Lucinda. You do not know our past and will never be able to comprehend what we both went through. That's final. I don't want you or anyone else but her. There is no changing that.". He finished, backing away from Lucinda. She griped until she heard the clanking of horse shoes making their way towards them. Upon hearing this, Lucinda immediately grabbed his arm and nuzzled up to his side. At the shock of the sudden movement, he just froze. When The clanking of the horse shoes came to a halt, Lucinda looked over to see Meg looking right over at them. She kept Elijah standing like that until she was sure that Meg had left. Once Meg left, she let go.
"Okay, I think that's enough." Elijah pushed her off of him, her stumbling back. She tried to follow him, but stopped when he gave her a gaze like Medusa's which turned her body to stone. She couldn't move a muscle.
Elijah finally escaped and made his way back into the palace. He pushed open the heavy, oak doors and made his way over to a corner and laid against it, groaning into his hands. He slid his hands off his face when he let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank god that's over. Now she'll stop bugging me... I hope." he thought to himself. He then remembered all the things she did. The thought for a second more before deciding to not tell Meg what had happened with him and Lucinda in the garden. It was for him to get away from her, he meant no harm either way. Meg did say that he should stay away from her and if that was the way to do it then so be it. He didn't want to hurt Meg by finding out he's been around her. He finally shook it off and made his way out of his corner.
. . .
Meg was pacing in her bedroom, her brain racing a million miles a minute at what she saw. She wasn't exactly mad but more disappointed. The fact that he would consider getting that touchy with her? She then thought a little bit more into the situation and what the possibilities of the situation were.
"So. This Lucinda girl tends to like to frame people. She said that I wasn't good enough for Elijah so maybe she pushed herself upon him? That sounds like something she would do. I don't want to jump to conclusions." Meg spoke to herself. Meg looked at herself in the mirror and smiled in reassurance.
"I am Enough.".
. . .
Lucinda sat on her bed. Thinking about how she was going to pull her stunt off. She put her head in her hands and whined. She whined about her whole situation. The truth is, she actually didn't want to be here. She didn't want to seduce Elijah and she didn't want to insult Meg. She knew how it felt. To find your soulmate and have them stripped away from you. Her girlfriend Bruna who she met in her village when she snuck out was banished. They exchanged letters to each other often and when her father found out about the letters, they were burned. She was banished... to Pierella. Lucinda has one letter left and carries it with her wherever she goes, reminding her of her lost lover. As much as she hates it, she is doing it so she could be reunited with Bruna.
The king promised that if she tore Meg and Elijah apart, he would send her out to the village with guards to find her significant other so they can be together again and Lucinda was ready to destroy a relationship so she can have her own.
Lucinda came up with a plan. A plan to make it look like Elijah started to like her more than he liked Meg. She would make sure that Meg would be walking in on every instance. She knows that Meg is going to be keeping her distance from her after the incident from earlier that day so it was almost perfect. The only issue was
How was she going to keep track of where Meg was?
. . .
Meg and Elijah made their way to the dining room table for their dinner. Hand in hand, they both make their way to their chairs. Elijah, pulling out Meg's chair for her, they both sat down in their respective seats at the dinner table, a little more awkward than usual.
"Hello Meg and Elijah. How are you? I haven't seen you since this morning!" the Queen exclaimed, folding her hands together. Her laugh lightened up the room as soon as she giggled at the comment she made.
"Both of our days were decent to say the least." Elijah responded, holding Meg's hand under the table, sensing that she was nervous.
"That's good to hear.". His mother continued. "So. Have you talked to this Lucinda girl?" the queen questioned. Elijah put on a fake smile and answered.
"She's a very lovely girl.". Leaving Meg in a little bit of a trance, but still not jumping to conclusions, figuring that he has to say that to his parents.
"That's very good to hear!" the king exclaimed. "You know Elijah, she is a VERY pretty girl, and she is so sweet. I don't know if you know but our kingdoms are close!".
"You don't say!" he managed to trick his family, and even Meg herself when he said that as if he took interest in Lucinda. Both Meg and the Queen had looks on their faces that weren't exactly looks of happiness.
The butlers came by and put the dinner in front of everyone sitting at the table. A plate of turkey, gravy, freshly grown beans and parsley. They immediately dug in. Before Meg could take her first bite, the king stopped her.
"Meg. Before you start eating I have to talk to you about something and since you are right here, why not right now, right? No better time like the present!" He claimed. Meg nodded her head in agreement, putting her fork down.
"Meg, we need to talk about what happened earlier with you and Princess Lucinda.". As soon as Meg heard that, she slunched down into her chair. His sisters looked confused and their mother looked at her husband and then at Meg, not aware of what went on earlier. Meg went silent.
"I know you know what I'm talking about." the king looked over the table, shooting daggers at Meg. Meg nodded and let out a small "Yes... I do." she answered, hesitantly making eye contact with the king.
"What's this about intentionally harming our guest Meg? Do you wanna explain that to me and my wife?" She looked over to the queen who looked shocked at what she heard and the king had a frightening look on his face.
"Meg, is this true?" the queen looked at her with quiet eyes.
"It was an accident! I didn't mean to push her!" denying the king's claims.
"That's not what the maids said. They said you got angry and pushed her, and now her ankle is sprained." Meg opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out, so naturally Elijah cut in the conversation, defending her.
"With all due respect father, She was following me through the garden and she didn't show a single sign of pain while we were walking, so I can confirm that she did not get hurt."
"But that doesn't explain why she got mad!" His fathers voice started to raise in volume.
"I didn't mean to get mad! I just wanted to get to know her better and make her feel welcome in the kingdom is all!" Meg retaliated, sitting up in her chair.
"I don't believe that for a second Meg." The king said, obviously knowing that she was telling the truth but completely denied it.
"Honey, Calm down! You know she didn't mean to do it on purpose!" the queen put her hand on his shoulder.
"I would never try to hurt her!" Meg responded.
"You literally did nothing but hurt people for five years, Meg! That's all you know!" The king shot out, knowing it was a sensitive topic for her. A topic that would make her want to leave Elijah because of his father. Meg's face turned white and then red.
"Father! Why would you bring that up? I thought we agreed that we wouldn't talk about it." Elijah started to yell at his father, Meg was stunned at Elijah's outburst.
"Elijah? How dare you yell at your father, and over her? You know better!" the king stood up from his chair and looked Elijah in the eyes, Elijah getting up to scowl back. His two sisters coward in their seats, looking at each other as the yelling continued.
"Elijah! Austin! You both need to calm down!" the queen pleaded.
"I am not going to calm down! What she did was awful and she shouldn't be sitting at this table!" The king started yelling both at his wife and Elijah.
"Austin! You are going overboard! It was an accident! Let it go!" she looked at Meg. "Meg, I'm so sorry, I don't know what's gotten into him!" the queen apologized .
"I am not going overboard! I've kept my cool for as long as she's been dating our son but after today, I am certain she is not good enough for our son!" The king started getting more out of control.
"That's ENOUGH! SIT DOWN NOW!" The queen screamed. The whole room went silent upon never hearing the queen scream like that before.
"Elijah! You and Meg take your food and go to your rooms. Stacy and Samantha, you do the same and YOU," she pointed at her husband.
"You're coming with me." She snarled, grabbing the king by the ear, pulling him out of the room and to their bedroom like he's a child.".
. . .
Elijah grabbed both his and Meg's plates and ran out of the room, Meg barely able to walk. The hallways felt miles long, like she could never get to the end of them.
As soon as they made their way to Elijah's room, he put the plates down on his desk and had Meg sit on his bed. She lost all sense of what was around her. Her heart started beating faster and faster while she could hardly breathe. It was like a giant wave of salt water crashed over her and she couldn't swim up. Like she was drowning and there was no light to tell her where to go. Elijah knelt in front of her and took her hands in his, feeling them shake. He silently shushed her and gently squeezed her hands, trying to bring her back to reality. Elijah didn't say anything. He just sat with her until she calmed down, occasionally squeezing her hands more to keep her in a conscious state. This lasted for about fifteen minutes before her breathing calmed.
"Hey. It's okay. I'm here." He looked up at her, shooting her a smile in an attempt to calm her down more.
"I know it's hard for you to talk right now, but I'm gonna need some help understanding you okay?" She nodded her head, trying her best to keep it in place without it shaking too bad.
"I'm going to have you hold each one of my hands in one of yours. I will ask you a question. If your answer is "yes" to a question, then squeeze my left hand. If you want to answer "no" then squeeze my right hand. Do you think you can do that for me, love?".
She hesitantly shook her head in agreement, still not being able to fully think.
"Okay. Do you want to lay down?". She squeezed his right hand. He mumbled out an agreement.
"Do you need a blanket?" she squeezed his left hand. He let go of her left hand and pulled the blanket sitting behind her and drooped it over her shoulders. She shivered, he grabbed her hand again, her breathing speeding up slightly again.
"Hey, hey, hey," he said in a calm and soothing voice. "Just look at me. No one else is here, and there is nothing that will harm you. Just keep your eyes on me.". He rubbed circles into the back of her hands as he kept eye contact with her. She would look away and he would have her look back at him.
"Just focus on me. Everything is going to be okay. I promise.". Her breathing slowed and the pounding in her chest ceased from its former force. Her body stopped shaking and the tears finally leaked from her eyes.
"There you go. Good job." he praised. "Everything is going to be alright. It's going to be okay.". He reassured her still somewhat not able to focus on the area around her. He turned around to look at his desk and got up to grab a glass of water from his dinner. He brought it over and held it up to her lips.
"Here. Drink this.". She grabbed the glass from him and started drinking it fast, so he gently pulled it away from her face.
"Take small sips. Don't drink it so fast. You'll choke.". He let go of the cup and let her have it again, her now taking small sips.".
"Do you feel better?" he asked. She shook her head in agreement and continued to shakily drink the glass of water. He sighed and looked up at Meg. She hadn't completely stopped shaking but she was in enough of a conscious state that she would be able to hold a calm conversation. She looked down at him and guilt flooded her body.
"I'm sorry Elijah... I thought I was over those... I haven't had one since we both got together. And that, after he mentioned those things which I had finally forgotten, it all just came flooding back to me all at once. Like a tsunami.". She grabbed her stomach at the thought of her having a panic attack in front of his family.
She felt weak.
She felt that Elijah would need a suitor who could be strong in situations like that.
The king's words started to sink into her mind. About her relationship and how she shouldn't be with his son, but she still didn't care. She loved him and he loved her. Knowing that, she was not going to give him up yet even if his father is a witch.
"Elijah? Why is love so hard?" she looked up at him, her eyes bloodshot.
"I don't know Meg... I honestly don't know. It shouldn't be, but we're in this together and we'll pull through." he stood up and sat next to her on the bed, slinging his arm over her shoulder. She leaned into his side.
"I just don't understand why your father doesn't like me. I'm sure he has a reason but, I would like to know so I could change for him. So I could be accepted by everyone in your family. So we could all be happy together. He's the only one who's trust I need to gain, but I don't know how.". She wiped the tears from her eyes.
"I don't know either, Meg. I really wish I had an answer.".
. . .
The door to the king and queens bedroom flung open, the queen pulling the king in by the ear. As soon as the door slammed shut, the king was thrown onto the bed. He looked up at his wife whose face was completely red, smoke practically emitting from her ears. Her knuckles were white and she was breathing heavily from the anger. He could practically hear the growl in her throat. He gulped at the image of his wife.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" she screamed, throwing her hands in the air. "WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?" The king sat up on the bed.
"I said what needed to be said. What she did was inexcusable." he crossed his arms.
"I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT YOU IMBECILE! YOU CAUSED A SCENE, YOU BOUGHT UP TRAUMA THAT SHE HAD FINALLY FORGOTTEN AND SAID SHE DOESN'T DESERVE SOME OF THE ONLY FAMILY SHE HAS LEFT! NOW YOUR DAUGHTERS ARE SCARED SHITLESS AND MEG IS PROBABLY BREAKING DOWN. YOU THINK YOU DID SOMETHING? SHE IS GOING TO WANT TO LEAVE!". The queen yelled in one breath. The maids outside were listening through the door, shell shocked at the queen's tone and never had actually thought about how intimidating the queen could be. The king's eyes went wide at the screaming. He had only ever heard it once before and he never thought he would hear it again.
"But am I wrong? What does she have? She attacked the princess! That's proof!" he claimed, the queen growling.
"She said it was an accident! You didn't even give her a chance to explain herself! Just like the execution. You didn't settle for a trial, you jumped straight to conclusions. No matter what you think or say about their relationship or just how she is in general. You. Have. To. Stop".
"No matter what anyone says, I will never accept her, Jessica." He started to raise his voice at his wife. She gasped at his change of tone and started to close the distance between them.
"This is not your choice. You don't run Elijah's life anymore!" her eyes widened.
"You let a killer into the palace! She hurt Lucinda, she is going to hurt other people as well if she stays as his suitor. Think of the people! The kingdom!" he stood up and towered over his wife.
"You know what? I'm done with you right now. You will stay in here and think about what you did like the baby you are.". She walked to the door, swung it open and slammed it shut. As soon as his wife left, his jaw dropped at the sudden encounter with his wife, but no matter what she said, he was still going to do his best to get rid of Meg.
. . .
Queen Jessica took a deep breath and tried to keep her composure as she walked down the hallway to her son's room, her footsteps echoing in the now empty hallway. When she arrived at his doorway, she silently knocked on his door.
"Elijah? May I come in?" she said, quiet enough to not cause a disturbance, but loud enough for him to hear. Elijah looked at Meg and she nodded her head in agreement to let his mother in.
"You can come in.". Upon saying this, his mother gently opened the door and walked into the room. She hesitantly walked over and gently sat down nex\ to Meg on the bed, Meg lifting her head to look at the queen.
"Queen Jessica?" she sat up a little straighter to make herself look better in front of the queen. The queen put her hand on her back and rubbed circles into it.
"I am so sorry about him. I don't know what has gotten into him! What he did was unacceptable and I am so sorry about what happened." the queen bending her head down enough so Meg could see it, but not as far to be incompletely in her face.
"I just... I don't know what I did... I wish he would let me know so I could fix it and make him happy.". Meg quietly responded, red eyes looking up at deep, chocolate brown eyes.
"It's nothing you really did sweetheart. He's still caught up on the past and won't move on. He just... liked it better when you were a guard.". The queen admitted. "It's not that he hates you, it's just... He doesn't approve of you.".
"Then I'm going to do everything in my power to earn his trust.". She smiled a little upon saying this, motivating herself a bit. The queen chuckled and hugged Meg, Meg relishing the feeling of her soft and fluffy dress.
"I wish you the best of luck.". The queen looked at her son. "You are almost king. Don't let your father dictate your life over this, okay honey?".
"I will do my best mother.". He said. His mother looked over to the food and back at them. She got up and grabbed the two plates and handed them to them.
"Make sure you both eat, you need your energy". Elijah and Meg both grabbed the plates, and the queen walked over and opened the door. Before exiting, she turned around in the doorway to look at the two of them.
"And know that I will be here for you.". She grinned, and walked out the room, the door gently shutting behind her. Meg and Elijah looked at eachother, a wave of relief washing over them at the thought that at least his mother approves, and they both know it for a fact. They both grabbed their forks and enjoyed their meals in a comfortable silence.
. . .
The next days felt almost the same, except the king would stay quiet. Meg would meet Elijah in the mornings and eat breakfast with him and they would go their separate ways for the day, each taking care of individual business, and joining each other in every meeting they had. Lucida was always walking around getting into trouble, but what else was new? The only difference is that Elijah didn't seem to be staying away from Lucinda.
Meg had walked in on multiple occasions where they were either hugging or she would be clinging onto his arm or holding his hand. The more this happened, the more Meg thought about if he was actually committed to her, but she kept blowing it off because she kept her trust in Elijah, but she couldn't help but think about it. And what if he wasn't? If he was trying to stay away from Lucinda, then he wouldn't be with her almost every time she saw him. If he was trying to stay away from her then why was he with her in general? Especially doing all the things he and herself would do often, and it looked like he was enjoying it too. Meg couldn't see his face whenever she came across it, so she assumed he might like it more as time went on but Meg kept her trust in Elijah. As long as she could.
As long as she could.
. . .
Lucinda would never leave Elijah alone. She was always around one corner, just trying to cling onto Elijah and he was not having it but what was he supposed to do? His father would kill him if he laid a single finger on her, let alone hurt her feelings. His only hope was to hope Meg didn't walk by and see, and to his surprise he thought she had never seen a thing. He couldn't tell her.
He wouldn't tell her.
He didn't want to break her heart, but little did he know the more he continued with the stunt, the more her heart would break.
. . .
"Come on Elijah! Let's dance!" The princess jumped up and down in excitement. He sighed.
"Yes princess.". As soon as he finished his statement, the princess grabbed him by the wrist and sprinted down the hallway and down to the ballroom, Elijah tripping multiple times by the surprise of the princess who was significantly shorter than him.
When she pulled them into the ballroom, Elijah tripped a little on the somewhat slippery.
The ballroom was beautifully crafted. The floors were made of pure marble. The windows were large and had huge archways. There were banners of all the previous kings and queens hanging around the room. The ceiling was shaped in a way so that sound would bounce easily off of it. The carvings were captivating and the paintings that covered the empty spaces on the ceiling were exquisite. The walls included golden statues and a beautiful, golden design scattered on the walls of the room. The candle lights mounted onto the walls emitted a dull light, unlike the chandelier which was a more than acceptable size for it's type, the candles reflecting off the crystals of it, leaving light scattered across the room. The sunlight shone through the windows which made it look like an angel could enter from that place in the room.
Lucinda placed them in the center of the room. She placed her hands above his neck and placed his hands on her waist. He shot a fake smile that looked too real to be true. She hummed a tune that they could dance to, soft enough for it to not be overbearing but loud enough so the echo of the room would reflect the sound. She started dancing with him, their bodies swaying in sync, him still keeping his smile. Soon, she started to speed up the dance, moving to a position where her hand was in his, his other hand on her hip and her other hand on his shoulder.
Meg was walking down the hallway and heard a silent hum coming from the ballroom, so out of curiosity, she walked towards the ballroom to peek inside.
Lucinda heard the footsteps and immediately pulled off her plan. She danced over to the window where there would be a spotlight. She turned so that Elijah's smile could be seen at the door and tripped.
Meg peaked her head through the door to see Elijah, holding Lucinda in a dip, smiling at her. Meg's face turned white and she ran from the scene, without being noticed.
Elijah pulled Lucinda up from the dip and the smile was removed from his face.
"Princess. Are you alright?" he asked, genuinely worried.
"I'm great! Thank you for saving me!" she jumped up to try and hug him, he put his hand out and kept her from hugging him.
"I think that this is enough for today." He walked out of the room, the princess not following him but instead just standing there until he walked out of the room. As soon as he walked out of the room, her smile faded to a lifeless frown. She looked down, feeling somewhat ashamed of what she had just done but shook it off and remembered her motive. She put the smile back on her face and walked out of the room.
. . .
Meg just walked away, a dejected look on her face. She wouldn't cry. She was done with crying. After the incident a few days prior, she swore to never show weakness. The king wouldn't accept someone who is weak so instead of herself getting emotional, she finally keeps her mouth shut. Nothing was going to get to her.
Not a single thing.
Nothing...
. . .
Elijah looked around and finally let out a giant sigh that he seemed to be holding most of the week. He was finally away from her. He could finally just walk around the palace in peace.
As he walked around, he tuned into the sound of his own footsteps on the floor. He took in the sound of the hustle of the butlers and maids who took care of the palace. He felt happy. Happy that she was finally gone for a while and that he could just enjoy himself for a bit. The further he walked the more relieved and happy he felt. He felt even better when he saw his beloved walking down the hallways. Without her looking, he swept her off her feet from behind her, her screaming at the sudden impact. He was laughing and she laughed nervously. When he tucked his face into her neck and started pressing light kisses to it, his light scruff tickled her neck, making her fall into fits of laughter. He put her down and she turned to him. She tried her best to keep an excited grin to her significant other.
"What's up with you? Why are you so happy?" she said in a "happy" voice.
"Oh, no reason!". He smirked. Meg yelled in her head.
"Of course he'd be this happy and not tell me about why. Why would he? He wouldn't want me to know what he's up to." She thought. She shook her head, trying to get those thoughts out of her head at least until she was done talking to the prince
"Well, I don't know why you're this happy, but I'm glad you are.".
"Me too." he went to grab her hand, but was surprised when she slightly pulled away.
"Meg? What's wrong? You love holding hands.". He frowned, waiting for a response that she had to quickly come up with.
"I-I Just... I hurt my wrists when I went out to the training field. I just got a bit unlucky because I accidentally swung the sword too hard". She lied, Elijah believing her.
"Okay... Well, I have some time off. What do you want to do?". He asked.
"I actually still have some things I need to get done.". She excused, starting to walk away.
"I'll come help you finish it so you can get it done faster!", he said, starting to follow her. She stopped him.
"No no no. It's okay! I can get it done!" she said kissing his cheek to lessen suspicion of how she really felt. He walked her to her room so she could start on what she was "assigned" to do for the day. He tried to enter her room, but paused when she stopped in the doorway.
"Don't worry Elijah. I can do it alone." she claimed,
"But-" he got cut off when the door closed.
"I love you!" he yelled through the door, putting his ear to the door to listen for a response but stood in shock when he didn't get one back.
"Maybe she just didn't hear me..." He thought but just shrugged it off and he just went back to wandering the hallways.
. . .
Meg laid on her bed, just thinking about what she saw. She trusted Elijah, and the many times she has seen similar things, thinking that maybe he was just doing that to get her to leave him alone or make her happy but when she saw how happy he looked, her trust had been lost.
"The fact that he gave her the same look he gives me..." she grabbed a pillow and screamed into it. Once she raised the pillow from her face she threw it next to her. She took in a deep breath and then exhaled for about six seconds.
"If I could trust him, why wouldn't he tell me? I gave him so many chances over the course of this week. Everything I've seen I brushed off but seeing him hold her like that and look at her like that?... Am I enough?" she sat up and yelled towards the sky.
"I even asked him to try and stay away from her and he did the exact same thing! He said that we'd get through this together but I don't even know if he means that anymore." she paused.
"What'd I do? What did I do to deserve this?... I just want to be happy with Elijah. That's the one thing I want but I don't know if I can trust him as much as I did.".
"You know what? I need to ask about it and find out what's going on before I jump into the whole situation. I will talk to him about it tomorrow. I just want to talk. I'll figure out if I am still enough."
. . .
It was the next day and Meg was getting ready to talk to Elijah.
Her outfit for the day would be a shoulderless emerald green dress with top that flairs. The Skirt went past her knees and the folds on the skirt flared and complimented her body shape. At the waist, a piece of metal that looked like somewhat of a V shape laid on her hips, a yellow phoenix embroidered above it. The bow on the back of the dress was large and blended in with the matching cape she wore. She wore garnet earrings that dangled from her ears and a garnet necklace. She had emerald green, silk gloves that went all the way up her upper arm. Her heels gave her about an extra five inches of height. Her hair was put up in a bun and was held together by a golden clip that was dusted in jews and wrapped all the way around her bun to make sure no stray hairs showed.
. . .
Elijah walked out of his room with a coincidentally an emerald green blouse with a black coat over it, his necktie puffing out of his shirt, His pants were a very dark brown and his shoes were short and black. His pants were tucked white socks of course. He started making his way to the dining hall.
. . .
Lucinda was wearing a light blue dress that complimented her wavy, ginger hair and her blue eyes. She had a flower clip in her hair. Her lapis necklace and earring complimented her skin tone and her white glove only went a little past her wrists. Since it was her last day there, the first thing she did when she woke up was to go find Elijah. She immediately went out and skimmed the hallways for the prince, occasionally waving to a maid and or butler that happened to be walking by, soon enough after she turned a corner, she was met with her target.
Elijah was walking down the hallway, down to the dining hall. He was ready to eat and wanted to ask Meg how her work went yesterday when a familiar face came running up to him.
Lucinda saw Meg walking down the hallway and decided to pull Elijah into a meeting room quite vigorously. Meg noticed this and made her way over to where he was pulled in.
As soon as Elijah was pulled in, he was pinned against the wall. Confused, he just stood there and then realized what was happening.
"Lucinda? What are you doing?" He placed his hand on the wall behind him, as if he was trying to grab something to assist him, but there was nothing there to his disappointment.
Lucinda listened closely for any noise from outside the door, and when she heard footsteps make their way towards her. She cursed to herself in her head, before leaning in, Elijah's eyes going wide.
Meg ran over to the meeting room where Lucinda pulled Elijah to. She peaked her eyes into the room. Her heart dropped when she saw Lucinda in the corner of the room, kissing Elijah. The kiss broke and Lucinda and Elijah's heads whipped over to look at Meg just staring at them in the corner, her face as pale as snow...

"Am I not enough?"
