When Worlds Collide

Chapter 23

A week had passed and it was now the weekend. Maya slept in and woke up to an empty bed. She threw on a big t shirt over her naked body, and sauntered off to the main living area. She looked around confused, no sign of her girlfriend.

"Carina?" Maya yelled as she walked to the kitchen. She got no response and looked at the counter to find a note.

Good morning love-

Had to run off to the Resturant today. Will be back later.

Maya shrugged her shoulders in relief and continued about her morning. She put on some music while she made breakfast, French toast, and danced around the kitchen to it. She's only been living with Carina for a month, but it's felt like she's been there forever, she was comfortable there. Their home.

After she ate, she took a shower and threw on baggy clothes, not planning on doing much today. She was sat on the couch watching tv while drinking coffee when her phone buzzed and she got a text.

Andrew: Hey, are you with Carina?

Maya: No. She went to the restaurant to handle some things. You aren't there with her?

Andrew: ohh....no I'm not. But I'm going to leave and head there now. Did she seem okay today?

Maya: I wouldn't know, she was gone before I woke up, why? Is everything okay?

Andrew: umm, nothing. Just keep an eye on her today okay?

Maya was confused, she didn't know what was going on.

Maya: I do that everyday, but why today especially? Whats wrong?

Andrew: I feel like it's not my place and she should be the one to tell you that....Sorry Maya. Just...keep an eye on her today, please?

Maya: Of course..okay...

Maya became concerned and was curious as to why Carina would be not okay today. The brunette never mentioned anything, but again she's been gone today. Maya tried calling Carina, but there was no answer. She didn't want to intrude too much in case it was something she wasn't ready to tell her about, but she was still concerned.

Back at the restaurant, Carina was at the rooftop balcony, looking out at the view of LA. She was standing in silence in her own thoughts, with sniffles and tears escaping from her.

"I knew you would end up here." Andrew spoke as he shut the rooftop door and went towards Carina.

"How did you know?" Carina asked.

"Maya." Andrew smiled shyly.

"Shit, does she kn-" Carina said but was interrupted.

"No, I didn't tell her. Wasn't my place, that's all you." Andrew reassured her as he stood next to her and leaned against the railing with his sister. They stood in silence for awhile until Andrew spoke up. "3 years."

"Yeah." Carina sighed as a tear went down her face. "3 years today since we've been without our favorite person."

"This day is always tough. I miss her so much." Andrew said as his voice cracked.

"Me too baby brother." Carina responded as she leaned her head against his shoulder.

"We've survived." Andrew said.
