After supper, I find Rick outside in the Watchtower. Walkers still haven't been cleaned out from the old areas, so we are pretty limited on where we can go.
"What do you want, Lilly?" he asks with a biting tone.
I raise my hands up in defense. "I'm not here to argue with you, Rick. We have had enough of that in the group lately. I just came to get away."
"From Daryl?" His eyes already know, despite him asking.
I shrug. "I guess. I don't know how I'm supposed to forgive him immediately. He's a good man, I know that. He's going to be a father, but he left with the man that physically hurt me, that hurt Glenn. You left him on the rooftop. I don't want Merle here, but Daryl will not even entertain that idea."
Rick lets out an angry breath, running a hand through his hair. "Trust me, I know. It's like he's being the same stubborn redneck we both met back at that campground, not the man that almost killed himself looking for Sophia. The one that comforted Carol when we did find her daughter."
I'm sitting next to the leader now, not even a foot between us. My knee nudges his playfully and it relieves the tension in the small tower. He lets a small laugh out. "I'm sorry that Daryl screwed it up."
"Yeah, me too."
There's a comfortable silence but I can tell that Rick has something he wants to say. "Do you think that I should meet with the Governor?"
I pause, thinking. I definitely don't trust the man. I never got to meet him, but Maggie had, and what was described sent chills down my spine. Seeing him from afar at the fight was enough. The way that he could manipulate an entire town was scary. Though I know Rick could see through a lot of bullshit. "I think you could just feel it out. Take Daryl, I, and Hershel."
"You and Hershel?"
"I'll be the token female. I imagine he'll bring Andrea. Hershel might make him think twice about hurting us. He's also a peacemaker." Daryl is an obvious choice, as we need some manpower.
"Alright. I'll send something to Woodbury. Go get some sleep, Lilly."
I scoff. "You too, Officer Friendly. You're starting to look old."
He grins. "I am old."
I wave goodbye as I exit the tower. Time to go share a cell with a man I'm unsure with.
We pull up to an abandoned barn in the middle of nowhere. Already, I'm getting a bad feeling about the whole thing. Daryl is the first one out, then Rick and I. We leave Hershel in the car with a gun to protect himself. We secure the area as we go further into the property to where Rick will have his sit-down.
"I'm going in alone," Rick says, having Daryl and I hang back. I want to protest but nod anyway, watching him go into the dark warehouse. Daryl and I go around to a window, watching Rick come back into the light. We can hear the beginning of their exchange thankfully as part of the glass is broken.
