Not long after, Wood had contacted Harry and I and told us to meet him in the courtyard. I got dressed, putting on a black jumper and a light pair of blue jeans.
I ran into Harry as we were both leaving our dormitories. We smiled at one another and said 'good morning' before heading down to the courtyard together. When we got outside, I noticed that nobody else seemed to be out there. It was a cold, Saturday morning in October, most people were still in their common rooms. Harry and I kept walking until we saw Oliver. He waved us over when he saw us. Harry and I quickened our pace over to him. When we reached him, Wood handed me two bats and had Harry pick up the other side of the case he was holding.

"Quidditch is easy enough to understand. Each team has seven players." Wood said, bringing the case out to a bigger area. "Three Chasers, you Emily, two Beaters, one Keeper, and a Seeker. That's you, Harry." He and Harry then set down the case. Wood then went to the front of it and opened the box. When he did, he pulled out a strange looking ball. It appeared to be the biggest one in the chest. He then turned and tossed it to me. I easily caught it.

"There are three kinds of balls. This one's called the Quaffle. Now, the Chasers, you," He said, pointing at me, "will handle the Quaffle and try to put it through one of those three hoops." He said, pointing towards the pitch and at three rings that were on poles that stood high in the air. The one in the middle was the tallest, the one on the right was the second tallest, and the one on the left was the shortest.

"So, I just have to get the ball through a hoop?" I questioned. That seemed easy.

"Yeah, but the other team will have three of their Chasers coming at you, trying to get the Quaffle from you, and their beaters trying to hit you. Don't worry too much, you'll have the help of the other two Chasers on our team along with our Beaters." He told me. I nodded. "And, as more help, and, also a disadvantage to you, there's a Keeper, that's me, who defends the hoops. With me so far?" He asked. He then held his arms out for me to toss the Quaffle back.

"I think so." I told him, tossing the ball back.

"What are those?" Harry asked, talking about the two balls in the chest that were moving and tied down. Wood set the Quaffle back into the chest and picked up the two bats that I had set on the ground. He handed both Harry and I one.

"You better take these." He told us. We each grabbed a bat and then watched as Wood unlatched the two balls. When he did, they immediately shot into the air. I watched as they went higher and higher, until they stopped and began to come back down right at Harry and I. "Careful now, they're coming back." The first one was closer to Harry so he swung at it and sent it through the arms of one of the statues. The other one came mere seconds after the first and it was closest to me. I readied the bat and smacked the ball as hard as I could. When I did, it followed the same path as Harry's. "Not bad, you two. You'd make fair beaters." I then watched as one of the balls came flying back through the whole in the arms. "Uh oh." Oliver said. He then caught the ball and struggled before putting it back in the box. He took a few breaths. I looked up and saw the other one.

"Uh, Oliver." I said, pointing at it. He nodded and then caught that one as it came back. He struggled as well with this one. Once he had put it away, he sat down and took a few breaths.

"What were those? Harry asked.

"Bludgers. Nasty little buggers." Wood told him. "But you," he said, pointing to Harry, "are a Seeker." He then went back into the chest and opened up the small Hogwarts crest inside. He then pulled out a small, golden ball. "The only thing I want you to worry about is this." He said, holding it up for us to see. "The Golden Snitch." He held it out and Harry grabbed it.

"I like this ball." Harry said as he studied it.

"Ah, you like it now. Just wait. It's wicked fast and damn near impossible to see." Wood told him.
