"Take a bit of toast, you two. Go on." Ron said.

"I'm not hungry." Harry told him.

"Ron's right. You're both gonna need your strength today." Hermione told us. Today was our first Quidditch match. We were playing Slytherin. Harry and I had been practicing with the whole team, and had done pretty well. But with the actual match approaching, we were starting to become nervous.

"Like I've said, Hermione, I'm not hungry." I told her.

"Good luck today, Potter, White." I looked up and saw Snape standing near Hermione and Harry who were opposite Ron and I. "Then again, now that you've proven yourself against a troll a little game of Quidditch should be easy work for you. Even if it is against Slytherin." Snape eyed us before walking away. Harry watched him go.

"That explains the blood." Harry said.

"Blood?" Hermione and I asked at the same time.

"Listen, last night, I'm guessing Snape let the troll in as a diversion so he could try and get past that three headed dog. But, he got himself bitten, that's why he's limping." Harry told us.

"But, why would anyone go near that dog?" Hermione questioned.

"Because it's guarding something, remember?" I told her.

"The day I was at Gringotts, Hagrid took something out of one of the vaults. He said it was Hogwarts business, very secret." Harry told us.

"So, you're saying..." Hermione trailed off.

"That's what the dog's guarding. That's what Snape wants." Harry said. We were all looking at one another, trying to figure out what Hagrid could've gotten, when the screech of two owls caught our attention. We all looked up to see Harper and Hedwig carrying large packages. As the two owls flew by, Harry and I held out our hands. Hedwig dropped her package in Harry's hands as Harper dropped the one he was carrying in mine. We both then set our packages on the table.

"Bit early for mail, isn't it?" Hermione asked.

"But I...I never get mail." Harry said, looking up at me. I shrugged.

"I wasn't expecting anything." I told him.

"Let's open them." Ron told us. Harry and Hermione worked on Harry's while Ron and I worked on mine. We untied the strings on the package and ripped off the paper.

"They're broomsticks." Harry said, amazed.

"They're not just any broomsticks, Harry, those are Nimbus 2000s!" Ron told us.

"But who...?" I began to say. Two owls screeching drew our attention to the staff table where Professor McGonagall was petting Harper and Hedwig, smiling at us. I smiled back at her and mouthed 'thank you.' She nodded.

Fifteen minutes later, Harry and I found ourselves getting ready to leave the Gryffindor changing rooms. We had brought our brooms down from the great hall and had changed into our quidditch robes. Oliver called for all of us to follow him as we walked towards the pitch. We followed Oliver until we came to a door. He stopped. Harry and I stopped right behind him.

"Scared, Harry?" Oliver asked.

"A little." Harry told him.

"You, Emily?" Oliver asked.

"Just a bit." I told him.

"That's all right. I felt the same way before my first game." Oliver told us.

"What happened?" Harry asked eagerly.

"Er, I don't really remember. I took a Bludger to the head two minutes in. Woke up in the hospital a week later." I know Oliver was, in some way or another, trying to comfort us, but if anything he just increased our worries. I took a deep breath and turned to the boy on my left.
